Let me start off by admitting I went to the new Legal Oysteria twice in two days. It’s that good, and it doesn’t hurt that it’s pretty close to my office.  I didn’t spend much time at Olives, the restaurant previously in its space, except for the epic reopening party, where it seems Todd English spent all of his money on a seven hour open bar. . .

But I loved the space and location, and well, while Todd doesn’t seem to have a love for Boston, Legal does, and I had a feeling they would get it just right.

Legal Oysteria maintains that same bright, open layout and design that Olives had, with a beautiful white marble bar and a variety of types of seating, including a dining area, bar, and high tops.

The cocktail menu offers many aperitif and digestif type drinks; a number of them have bitter elements like Amaro. I started with a Prosecco Cocktail, a refreshing and too-easy-to-drink blend of Prosecco, Aperol, Aperitivo Rosa, Citrus, and Soda. The paper straw it came with was cute, but it disintegrated pretty quickly.

Legal Oysteria is the perfect place to dine with friends who are up for trying lots of bites. Every single one was delicious, and we filled up before we had the chance tp even look at the entrée menu!

calamari

{Crispy Fried Calamari, Salsa Rossa}

Tender, salty, perfectly crisp, the calamari was a surprise. I often try calamari that I don’t love, but this one really was perfect.

caponata

{Eggplant Caponata with Grilled Focaccia}

I love eggplant, but I love it even more when someone else cooks it for me. This caponata was dotted with sweet raisins to provide a flavor contrast, and the bread was fluffy and buttery,

grilled oysters with fennel butter

{Grilled Oysters with Fennel Butter}

This is possibly the most heavenly and decadent way to eat oysters ever. Warm fennel butter mixed with plump grilled oysters was a combination new to me, but it is something I want to eat again and again.

ricotta fritters with spiced honey

{Ricotta Fritters with Spiced Honey}

These little fritters reminded me of donuts. They were awesome, but I think they might belong on the dessert menu.

shrimp and chickpea fritters

{Chickpea and Shrimp Fritters}

I had these both nights at Legal Oysteria. I loved the mix of shrimp and chickpeas in a piping hot fritter, and the spicy aioli was a perfect addition.

clam pizza

{Roasted Clam Pizza, Garlic, Oregano, Mozzarella, Pecorino}

The roasted clam pizza was our main course, and it was delightfully crispy and garlicky, the perfect end to the meal and the bite that put me over the “too full” edge.

Legal Oysteria is an excellent addition to the Boston dining scene, and I am certain it will become an after work favorite for me and my colleagues.

Row 34

What started out as a quick stop for a few oysters while we waited out particularly bad traffic, turned into a full fledged dinner at the bar (my favorite) with rounds of Cava, perfect recommendations, and great conversation. Row 34 in Boston’s buzzing Fort Point area is one of my new favorite places. If we didn’t have to work the next day and weren’t moving a few days later (more on that at a later date!), we could have easily hung out at the bar into the night. Row 34 is just an easy place to be. At first, because it is sparsely decorated and pretty spacious, I thought it might be a little cold and stiff. That was not the case at all. In fact, I would call it cozy, and the food is to die for.

Once seated at the bar, I decided on bubbly, because there’s pretty much no occasion where I don’t want sparkling wine. Row 34 had a few options, and I decided on a zippy Bohigas Brut Reserva Cava. My husband loved their selection of beers, which included beer from Row 34’s neighbor Trillium.

As we slurped oysters, we tried to decide on the rest of our order. Row 34 is definitely a place where you will want many courses of small bites. There are just too many to try, and in our experience, they are all incredible.

Below is the only food photo I grabbed of the food we had; if I could sum up our experience at Row 34 in one photo,  this is a perfect one to do it.

This is Deviled Crab Toast, chunks of tangy crab on buttery toast, with a little freshness from a watercress garnish. Simple, perfect.

We also devoured Shrimp Sliders with crunchy pickles (times two, our first order was so good we needed more), Tuna Tartare, Tuna Crudo, and Smoked Salmon. I love the extensive and creative raw bar offerings; they go well beyond your typical shellfish options. The Tuna Crudo was from the raw bar menu, and the black garlic sauce left me wanting to lick the plate.

The restaurant  also offers larger plates and a pretty mouthwatering list of fried seafood and sauces that I will definitely be trying on my next visit. Row 34 is definitely one of those places you want to go again and again, which is always nice to find. Steel and Rye is another one of those places; I can’t get enough!

Is there a restaurant you find yourself going back to again and again?

We met through blogging, chatted via Twitter, and connected in real life at a wine tasting and tomato dinner, and this past Saturday, a group of Boston friends celebrated a pretty epic bachelorette party day.

Alicia, Daisy, Megan, Michelle and I were once blogger friends, now I just consider them great friends, people who share a lot of the same interests: food, wine, cocktails, travel, blogging, and a love of fun. They (and the other blogger friends I have made) are the absolute best part of blogging, and I could not wait to celebrate upcoming weddings with them.

It all kicked off at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge, which offers some of the best views the area has to offer. We were able to snag the Artist’s Suite, which, in addition to being spacious, gorgeous, and offering this view, had some pretty great décor was well.

The room proved to be a perfect place for sipping on bubbly and doing some much-needed catching up.

prosecco

Light and refreshing Prosecco in a beautiful bottle, and a favorite for toasting wonderful women, Veuve Clicquot. Megan made us all gift bags with mini wedding cakes in them. They were adorable!

Our friends at the Royal Sonesta treated us to our afternoon snacks, a beautiful display of cheese, fruit, and meat, along with individually bottled Corpse Revivers, a nod to ArtBar’s absinthe-tasting.

There was lunch at ArtBar, complete with adult Root Beer Floats (House Vanilla Vodka, Root, Sarsparilla, Salted Cream, CO2).

I went for a lighter option, the eggplant and tomato soup, just enough to fill me up and to save room for snacking later on.

We lounged poolside, sipped more bubbly, and got ready for a night on the town that started with oysters and cocktails at Abigail’s in Kendall Square.

But it didn’t stop there! Stay tuned for dinner at The Blue Room, coming tomorrow.

Did you do any celebrating this weekend?
