Happy first day of Summer! Boston is my favorite place to be during this magical season, and if you’ve been reading my blog any length of time, you know that I spend every minute I can boating, swimming, and on beaches.

As such, I was so excited to learn about Boston Harbor Cruises luaus on Spectacle Island, and to be invited to one that fell on my husband’s first Father’s Day. It turned out to be the perfect day for a cruise over to Spectacle, as it was in the 90s, and we enjoyed beautiful sea breezes.

Since it was a luau, I made sure we were dressed accordingly. Welcome to a lifetime of coordinated family outfits, Myles!

We enjoyed a lovely and smooth ride out to the island and then were greeted with its beautiful beaches, trails, Boston views, and a tent set up and ready for our dinner.

We made a quick stop at the bar for Sam summers, and then we found seats under the tent to begin our luau feast!

The main dish at the luau was a whole roast pig, which I fully enjoyed, but I decided to omit a photo, as I know many people (including myself) have a hard time looking at the pig itself. I have to say though, it was really yummy, super tender and flavorful, and the team serving it up was lovely and friendly!

As usual, for me, the side dishes stole the show. I ate the majority of this frisbee full of tomatoes. Nothing says summer like tomatoes, and these were simply delicious. I also loved this noodle dish and a combo pasta/potato salad that just says summer picnic.

After we devoured our side dishes and melt-in-your-mouth pork while chatting with our luau neighbors, we were presented with a creamy coconut pudding . . . which was incredible!

The timing of the luau meant that we were able to go for a nice walk on the island before heading back to the boat and enjoying a glorious sunset over Boston as we rode home. We took turns relaxing on the bow (It was a bit too windy for the baby.) and we all just felt super happy and relaxed when we arrived home and ready for a deep sleep and to tackle the week ahead. My husband said he felt like he was on vacation while out at the luau. I wholeheartedly agree.

Thank you for hosting us, Boston Harbor Cruises! I look forward to coming aboard for my annual trip to Provincetown and hopefully for many other journeys this summer!

Super Hunger Brunch

I don’t ever need an excuse to go out for brunch; its leisurely pace, yummy breakfast/lunch combo dishes, and of course, cocktails, make it my favorite meal of the week.

Super Hunger Brunch, however, makes going out to brunch in Boston a million times more meaningful. Hunger is an ongoing problem in our city and our Commonwealth, and by simply going to brunch during this special event, you and your friends and family can contribute to something that provides solid solutions to this problem.

On January 27 and 28, 2018, local restaurants (listed out below) will offer special Super Hunger Brunch menus or dishes, donating 100% of proceeds to The Greater Boston Food Bank. This is the 36th annual Super Hunger Brunch, and it promises to be fantastic. You can plan ahead and buy gift certificates here.

Be sure to also make a reservation at your restaurant of choice, as a gift certificate does not equal a reservation.

Where are you brunching for Super Hunger Brunch?

If you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you’ll know that our first or last (okay, sometimes both ways) stop on our way to a Sonoma County getaway is at the beautiful and bubbly Gloria Ferrer Caves and Vineyards. It is simply the best place to celebrate the start of a holiday or to look back on an amazing time as it sadly comes to an end. Trust me, I have cried more than once on their property. . .

This past weekend, while I was on a girls’ trip to Sonoma County, Gloria Ferrer kindly hosted my group for a tasting and so much more, and it was glorious. It’s truly a magical spot, and we sipped on our favorite wines and ate delicious cheese as we took in those views and the end-of-summer summer sun. It’s just a must-visit spot.

It’s not always easy to make it out to California, but if you live in Boston, Minneapolis, or Denver, Gloria Ferrer is coming to you, in the form of their Glorious Bites Challenge.

About the Challenge:

Gloria Ferrer is on a mission to find the most glorious appetizer in the country. With the help of four expert foodies, we’re coming to a city near you in search of an appetizer that pairs perfectly with our Sonoma Brut. So channel your inner-foodie and submit your signature appetizer recipe!

What could be better than spending an evening enjoying food, wine, and friendly competition?

I will of course be at the October 3 Divine Design Center Boston event, and I hope you will get your tickets now and join me for a taste of wine country in Boston. This event promises to be memorable, and really one-of-a-kind.

Thank you again to Gloria Ferrer Caves and Vineyards for hosting us and for the opportunity to attend Glorious Bites in Boston next week!
