One thing I love about working with the Shops at Prudential Center on the PR for their holiday events is that each event links back to the community in some way. This November, they are giving shoppers in the Boston area an opportunity to get that holiday shopping done before Thanksgiving while receiving exclusive discounts and helping eight charities. Shoppers will quickly make up the $5 registration fee in discounts. I’ll be there on November 17, and I think the Ann Taylor and LOFT discounts I find will be a lot more than $5. I might be shopping a bit for myself. . . shh.

It’s a win-win for everyone! If you have a blog and would like to share GIFT with your readers or Twitter followers, it would be greatly appreciated!

What kind of holiday shopper are you? Were you done in July, do you buy as you go, or do you wait until the very last minute?

No, I’m sadly not giving one away or even going on one, but a girl can dream, right? I am at the point in the Boston winter where I am fed up with the very same sweaters and boots that I couldn’t wait to wear in October. After months of sitting around, a couple of illnesses, and marathon training, my pants don’t fit, and I am eyeing up all sorts of fresh new styles.

Unfortunately as someone who’s been working only part time for a few months, I can’t buy any of these things, but I thought it would be fun to take you through my dream list.

1) Dresses. If I could have my way and my weather, I would wear cute dresses every day of the week. Not only are they easy to put on and go, but they are generally a lot more forgiving of a big meal or lack of gym time.

I generally buy my dresses at Marshalls and TJ Maxx; I have gotten plenty of things that I later saw on Newbury Street for way low prices. But if I won the lotto, I would spend a lot more time at Anthropologie buying things like this.

2) Flat sandals. I like heels, but let’s face it. I live in the city and spend a lot of time traveling on foot. Last summer I embraced my shortness and the flat sandal and ended up much happier than if I was trying to hobble around in cute strappy heels. I am loving these gladiator style sandals that I am seeing in stores now.

3) Accessories. Kate Middleton is making hairpieces and fascinators all the rage, but having spent so much time in Ireland, I have been coveting these pieces of wearable art for years. And let me tell you, they are pricey! I check out fascinators and hats every time I visit Ireland and still have not found one under $80 that I like.

4) Sleeveless tops. I generally like my arms, and I love buying lots of sleeveless tops to mix and mingle with jeans and jackets. I especially like finding very inexpensive sleeveless tops at H & M, Target, and the like. It’s a cheap and easy way to have an interesting summer wardrobe!

5) Sweaters. Lots and lots of sweaters to go over above sleeveless tops because somehow I manage to be cold in August.

Looking back at my imaginary shopping spree, I definitely see a theme with the colors I chose Smile As much as I try to get away from black and gray, I always gravitate back toward them even in summer.

Do you like to shop? What is on your spring fashion wish list?

I know, it is a very difficult thing to do right now, especially if you live in the Northeast or any other place that has experienced an endless stretch of snow days and days where the temperatures dream to reach freezing.

Last night Boston Sports Woman hosted an evening that gave a much-needed respite from the wintry gloom and a girly night out that I didn’t realize I needed. Nestled in the warmth of the North End’s Savas Studios, I think we were all able to more easily picture ourselves in spring.

I had never been to Savas Studios, and as I don’t know the North End super well, I cautiously made my way over in the FREEZING cold from the Haymarket MBTA stop. Once I arrived, I was presented with so many beautiful things and a friendly welcome that I forgot almost immediately about the cold outside.

Savas Studios

Savas Studios, owned by sisters Christine and Stephanie Savas, offers a beautiful array of unique clothes and jewelry. They feature many local designers and some things you can only find in their beautiful boutique. I was especially smitten with some of the fun baubles and feathered hairpieces. I will definitely return for some shopping.

So what exactly did the evening at Savas Studios with Boston Sports Woman entail? Once I peeked behind the curtain, I saw what was in store for the evening.

Catherine, a representative from etcetera brought a broad range of clothing from etcetera’s spring line for us to try on.

There were lots of fun and flirty dresses, skirts, and jackets, but I settled on my favorite almost immediately. And totally missed a photo of it.

But that’s okay, because we actually had a professional photo shoot!

That is, after we had been dressed and had our makeup professionally done with Arbonne cosmetics. Would you believe I have never had my makeup done before?!

Arbonne makeup

It was a total trip for me, the girl who works in yoga pants and a ponytail every day, to have makeup done by a professional artist and to have a professional photographer photograph me. I‘ll share the photos as soon as I have them. Mostly I feel like I was terribly awkward in front of the camera!

Vita Coco

In addition to the lovely clothes and makeup, there were also a variety of fabulous snacks including Vita Coco coconut water, one of my favorites, red and white wine, spinach dip, mango salsa, and smoked salmon, something I can not get enough of lately!

Boston Sports Woman event

I had such a fun time with all of the ladies at this event. Everyone was so nice, funny, and welcoming, and I really hope to be able to do this again sometime soon. For a cover charge of $35, it was completely worth it for a unique way to spend an evening with some fabulous women. I left happy and empowered, and coveting this jacket from etcetera.

Thank you to Kathy from Boston Sports Woman for inviting me to participate in such a great evening!

Have you ever had your makeup done professionally or been in a fashion photo shoot? If you live in the Boston area, would you be interested in a girly evening like this in the future?
