Internet at last! I wrote this post several days ago, but with all of the internet problems I had am just able to post it now that we are back in Boston. A really wonderful trip that I can not wait to share!
Hello from sunny, spring-like Galway, Ireland! I apologize for being MIA, but it has been hard to find the time to blog. I hope you have enjoyed the fabulous food and travel guest posts that other bloggers were kind enough to send in! I have sooo many photos and lots of fun to share, so I will start from the beginning, last Friday, when after a half day of work, we headed to the E terminal in Logan Airport, one of my favorite places to be.
Thank goodness for online check in and carry on bags. We kicked off our holiday by relaxing with a glass of Freixenet and a crab cake sandwich with sweet potato fries from the restaurant just next to the security lines. This restaurant is somewhat of a tradition for us, and I just FEEL like I am on holiday the second we step in.
They have the best sweet potato fries. Yum.
Security was a breeze, and no different than usual. Before I knew it we were in the air, and I was watching My Sister’s Keeper. What a sobfest! And a bad film to watch on a plane as it made my eyes puffy and my nose stuffy! The flight was incredibly uncomfortable as the girl in front of me immediately threw her seat back, so far that I couldn’t open my laptop, and she moved around so much that the seat kept crashing into my knees. Major travel pet peeve, people who recline the seat. I literally could not move my legs.
The food on Aer Lingus isn’t bad at all I must say, and I enjoyed a salad with some rice and chicken and some of this on a crusty roll.
I have eaten a LOT of Kerrygold butter this week. We buy it at home, but for whatever reason it always tastes better in Ireland.
We were greeted in Shannon Airport by my brother in law Patrick and large displays of Cadbury’s. Drool.
That’s me outside the airport! Dark as night at 6:30 am
After an hour and a half drive, we we were at my in laws’ house and eating a delicious breakfast of eggs, rashers, sausages, toast, cheese, and tea. An hour later I finally got to sleep.
A rainbow over my husband’s childhood home
Saturday is market day in Galway, and there is nothing I love more than outdoor markets. When I studied in Galway my junior year of college, I lived right across the street from the market. This was my old apartment.
I lived on the very top floor with three other students. We had an amazing view and were close to just about everything. Those seven months were some of my happiest. I absolutely fell in love with Galway at that time, and it was a happy coincidence that I met, fell in love with, and married someone from there!
Happy and relaxed by the River Corrib
The week has flown by, and we are heading back to Boston on Monday. I will be back a bit later with some really gorgeous photos, food, wine, and music from Ireland and the Czech Republic. I really miss reading and writing blogs, but being away has definitely been refreshing. I hope you are all doing well!
