Wine of the Week: Cuvée Pigoudet Première

For the love of rosé, is it ever going to be consistently nice out? These crazy temperature fluctuations and dark-as-night rainy days are getting me down!

This weekend in Maine was a gorgeous one, and I discovered a new favorite pink wine, just in time for boat season. I chose the Cuvée PIGOUDET Première from Provence for its ballet slipper pink color. For years I tried to pretend I didn’t love pink; I grew up in the era of grunge, after all! But truly it’s my favorite color, and I am happy to say that loud and proud!

I tweeted that I was having this wine by the sea while wearing Lilly, a pretty happy moment in my life and one that gave hope for the season to come. The wine is gorgeous; fruity but dry, with a nice acidity, nectarine and lemon notes, and a slight effervescence making it ideal for a picnic celebration or beach day. It’s super refreshing and pairs well with the ocean and seafood but would also be awesome with things like grilled chicken and asparagus with lemon.

Memorial Day isn’t too far off now, but if you love to drink pink year-round, this one is a keeper and definitely worth stocking up on. And at $14/bottle, it’s a great value for the exquisite flavor you get.

Wine of the Week: Travessia 2014 Pinot Noir Rosé

When the calendar tells me that it’s Spring,, I get ready for rosé . There’s something so hopeful about dry pink wine that pairs with light and delicious seasonal dishes that signals the arrival of longer days and warmer weather (unless you live in Boston).

Travessia Urban Winery has been making one of my favorite rosé wines since tthe very early days of this blog. We discovered Travessia at our first Coastal Wine Trail event, became wine club members shortly after, and have been fans ever since.

The 2014 Rosé of Pinot Noir may just be my favorite Travessia rosé yet. It’s dry, drier than past years, with a beautiful rosy pink color and a crispness that will go perfect with the bounty of seafood from the nearby coast. Light notes of strawberry and watermelon mix with a hint of minerality. Wines like this are the perfect example of how well wines go with food from the same region in which they were grown. The grapes for this wine are from nearby Dartmouth.

As always when we visit Travessia, we wandered New Bedford afterwards, loving the working fishing docks, deep blue sea and perfect skies. New Bedford is a charming New England gem and well worth a visit.
