Happy birthday to you, Boston Brunchers! I can hardly believe it has been a year since the Boston Brunchers got started, and I was very excited to celebrate with everyone at Island Creek Oyster Bar on Sunday. I had only been to Island Creek for dinner and was interested in how their brunch would be

We arrived to an already set up dining area. Each seat had a gift bag filled with some pretty great stuff, cook books, coupons, snacks, drink samples, and more. Renee from Boston Brunchers did a fabulous job of finding sponsors.

After we did some mingling and catching up, we sat down to baskets of fresh pastry. Megan and I split the donut muffin pretty much right away, and then the group sort of dove in, tasting bites and sharing the rest of the pastries, including a warm cinnamon roll and raspberry coffee cake.

The set menu gave us a choice of three breakfast cocktails, and I chose the McCarthy’s Crossing: Clear Creek Pear Brandy, Spiced Honey, Rose Vermouth, Fresh Lemon, and Bubbles. When given a choice, I will always choose bubbles. Winking smile

And lobster. I had to go for the lobster roll,  a fresh roll overflowing with chunks of sweet lobster, dressed in a mayo and crème fraiche dressing with celery and pickles. The pickles really made it for me; they were a nice surprise. The chips and coleslaw on the side of the lobster roll were also delicious. I would definitely return to Island Creek for their lobster roll.

Before we headed out, we got a group shot; it was fantastic to see some of my favorite bloggers all in one place on a Sunday morning. (Elina, Bianca, Melissa, Michelle, Elizabeth, Daisy, me, Megan). I love how Boston Brunchers has grown and how it has given me an opportunity to meet so many new Boston food lovers. Congratulations to Renee on a great year of hard work that has resulted in so much fun for everyone!

Do you love brunch as much as the brunchers do?

Was that weekend just a dream? I must have said it at least 10 times throughout that it just didn’t feel real. We spent most of it on Boston Harbor, enjoying the unseasonable temperatures and sunshine.

Boston Harbor

Really, I think this weekend was actually more gorgeous than any day over the summer. On Saturday, we took the boat out by ourselves, and we didn’t crash into anything coming back in! It was a pretty amazing day and something I hope to do a lot more of next summer.

We made our way down to Hull and bobbed around taking in the sun. It was so strong and perfect and blissful.

We debated on going out for dinner in the North End Saturday night, but the sun and salt got the best of us. Once darkness set in, I made some turkey subs, and we ate while tiredly watching Black Swan again.

And on Sunday, we went out on the boat with Michelle and her fiancé. Somehow we coaxed him into swimming so that I could go in too. I didn’t want to swim in freezing cold water alone! Really, I was afraid that something would grab my leg and drag me under, so I held onto the ladder. It still counts for a swim though!

After boating and swimming, we made our way once again to Savin Bar & Kitchen, our second time in one week, and 15th time since they opened in March, give or take a few visits when I forgot to check in or Tweet. Everything is always SO good.  Seriously, it is an awesome neighborhood spot, and I have tried just about everything on the menu. I pretty much want to eat there all the time, and since it’s so close, it is even more tempting. Great cocktails too.

In addition to outdoor fun, I did lots of cooking for the week, including making butternut squash lasagna, a delicious warm Brussels sprout salad, and a few other things. Blog posts coming soon! We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect, relaxing weekend. It made it really difficult to come back into the work week, especially since a few of the projects I have been working on have slowed down or come to an end. Eeep! In all of my busy-ness I forgot just how scary it can be to work as a consultant. Hopefully I will find some more work to fill those gaps soon.

And in the meantime, I’ve got a Wines of Argentina wine tasting this week, dinner with Ted Allen at Nespresso, and some prep to do for a TV show I may or may not be on next week. I’m also working with Kitchen Play and Calphalon, so there will be some good recipe posts very soon. And I promise this will be my last summer post! Winking smile

Did you have a long weekend? How do you deal with end-of-weekend blues?

As you probably know, especially if you live in the Boston area, Boston has a LOT of food bloggers, and we get together often at a variety of food and drink events. The Boston food blogging community is definitely one of the main reasons I blog. From work opportunities to running buddies to great friends, the food blogging community has brought it all to me, so I was excited when I heard about the Boston Food Bloggers party at M.J. O’Connors. On Wednesday night I made my way downtown on a freezing, windy night. I’ll be honest; I almost didn’t make it. Working from home has a special spell on me once it gets cold. Do I REALLY need to leave the house ever? The answer is obviously yes.

I arrived at the blogger event and checked in, said some hellos and grabbed a whiskey sour. The event was sponsored by Bushmills and Guinness, and there were a variety of specials. I have always been a fan of Bushmills, and after our visit last winter, I like it even more.

As with any blogger event, there was a ton of food including passed appetizers like arancini, stuffed mushrooms, sliders, and other delights, in addition to a table filled with crostini.

At this event I vowed to take more pictures of people than food. After all, it was all about bloggers, and there were so many great ones in the room. I wish I had been able to stay longer to talk to everyone. Here we have Rachel, Boston Food Bloggers founder and hostess of the event.

I also got to chat with Lindsay and Jon and to meet Molly.

I also got to meet Liz and to catch up with Elina and Judith.

M.J. O’Connor’s was a great place for a blogger party. Spacious and dimly lit, it has a nice, relaxing vibe, and they were fantastic hosts. They also have very good curry fries (but their sister restaurant, Solas, has the best curry fries in Boston, in my opinion. Winking smile)

Thanks to Hannah from The Briar Group and Rachel for putting together a great event for all of us Boston bloggers. I can’t wait until the next event!

Do you love blogger events? If you have a blog, what’s your favorite part about blogging?
