2010

It’s the final countdown! While I haven’t done much cooking or eating at any new restaurants over the past few days, there is no shortage of good food to write about. Last year I wrote my first annual memorable foods post, and as I look back on 2010, I thought it was worth recapping some of the spectacular restaurant meals of the year.

Deuxave, the best of the new Opened by one of my favorite Boston chefs, Chris Coombs, Deuxave was perfection from the second I walked in to wait for my husband. While the food was to-die-for and the wine list a delight, I felt like it was the incredible service and genuinely friendly demeanor of the staff that really stuck with me. This one is a keeper!

Opening week at Menton An email from the Barbara Lynch Gruppo alerted me to the fact that Menton was offering mailing list members pre-opening reservations. In what was the fanciest meal of the year, we enjoyed some of the best Boston has to offer. Have a very special occasion and the ability to splurge? Go here.

My birthday dinner at Scopa in Healdsburg, CA Oh the romance! This tiny Italian spot on Healdsburg Plaza was the perfect place for a birthday dinner for two. Sparkling wine, arancini, antipasto, and free dessert wine made my night, and made me fall in love with Sonoma even more than before.

Heirloom tomato dinner at Upstairs on the Square It was the brilliant idea of one of my blogger friends to attend this multi-course dinner in Cambridge. Each and every heirloom tomato morsel was perfect, right down to the tomato sorbet. Summer, please hurry up and get here so that I can go to the heirloom tomato dinner once again!

Zazu My husband’s birthday dinner in Santa Rosa, CA featured food right from the farm, and that showed in the flavor. I had the best veggie dish that I had all year, in addition to a blind wine tasting, and some awesome company from TasteLive!

Myers and Chang It was featured in last year’s post, and I have eaten there far more times than I have blogged about it. I would eat at Myers and Chang every day if I could. I find the food to be full of rockin’ flavor every single time with lots of healthy options and always with creative new dishes. Myers and Chang is easily my overall Boston favorite for brunch, lunch, or dinner.

I know that 2011 holds some great culinary moments already, including the BCAE Celebrity Chef Series and a Boston Brunchers brunch at the Langham Boston. Hopefully I will get to share some great food with some of you this upcoming year!

Question: What is your least favorite thing about winter? Mine is, without a doubt, feeling dehydrated all of the time and the awful dry skin. It is the worst!

I am 15 days late to join Reverb 10, but better late than never, right? Now that my wine class is over and I am spending allllll day at my computer doing freelance work, job hunting, and blogging, I thought I would do my best to participate in the latter half of Reverb 10.

What is Reverb 10 (or in Twitter speak #reverb10)?

Reverb 10 is an annual event and online initiative to reflect on your year and manifest what’s next. Use the end of your year as an opportunity to reflect on what’s happened, and to send out reverberations for the year ahead. With Reverb 10 – and the 31 prompts our authors have created for you – you’ll have support on your journey.

In a time of year where things get crazy, I think it will be a great challenge to focus on mindfulness for a post each day leading up to the New Year. Are you doing Reverb 10, or would you like to start with me?

Today’s Prompt: 5 Minutes

Imagine you will completely lose your memory of 2010 in five minutes. Set an alarm for five minutes and capture the things you most want to remember about 2010.

Here are mine.

Sunrise in the Scottsdale desert, underground dining in majestic Prague, Valentine’s Day dinner with my family,  birthday wine tasting and meeting Top Chef Kevin in Napa and Sonoma, each and every step of the 2010 Boston Marathon, a girls’ weekend getaway on Cape Cod, various events where I met new friends through blogging and Twitter, my husband’s birthday on Lake Sonoma, a Berkshire wedding weekend with good friends, Foodbuzz Festival and another wine country adventure, the first time I held my baby nephew, Harrison, Thanksgiving with my family, and finally, tonight or this weekend when I get to hold my new niece for the first time!

Blogging is such a blessing in that it helps me to remember so many of the things I want to remember most.

What are your most memorable moments of 2010? If you are doing Reverb 10, feel free to post a link!
