Cocktails and Sushi at The Intercontinental

Random weeknight get-togethers are the best. My friend Raija was in town yesterday for a work conference, and when I was able to get away to meet her for drinks, I was very excited. She doesn’t live far, but life gets busy, and we don’t see each other nearly as often as we would like.

We met under gorgeous blue skies outside South Station, and while talking about my ridiculous week last week, made our way past the Intercontinental Hotel, our destination. It took us a few blocks to realize that our chatter had distracted us, and we had to turn around to head back to the hotel.

Rumba

We found seats in RumBa, as close to the windows as we could get, to enjoy the channel views. It definitely turned out to be a beautiful day in the city. I started with a Rum Swizzle, and after awhile we ordered a dozen East Coast oysters.

Oysters just seemed to spark our appetites, and soon after my husband arrived, we moved on across the corridor to Sushi Teq.

Sushi Teq

Sushi Teq is a trippy dining experience, with ever-changing lights surrounding diners. It’s a little too much, but the views, sushi, and cocktails help to make up for it.

I had a tart Hemingway Daiquiri that was absolutely delicious.

And we shared a bunch of rolls, here the Sushi Teq roll:

Spicy cooked salmon atop a sliced soy wrapped roll of
avocado, cucumber and scallions, embellished with crunchy
potato, chive oil and tosa soy

And a Philadelphia roll, spicy tuna roll, and spicy salmon roll. Everything was fresh and delicious, and they delivered on spicy!

Nights like last night remind me that I need to get out of my workspace more during the week. I instantly felt more energetic just being out and about. As much as working from home has its perks, it can also make you a little stir-crazy!

It was also SO great to spend time talking non-stop with a good friend. I can’t wait for more fun in our post-marathon celebrations.

What’s the most fun night/day out you’ve had recently?

Looks like a great way to take a break from work! I need to heed your advice; I’m home studying a lot and get really caught up in going going going… but you’re completely right that sometimes you just need to step away.

I have had drinks at the Interconn a number of times but never have eaten – there, obviously this needs to change! Last fun day was being out on Friday and showing a friend around Boston – we went to so many great places!

Impromptu get-togethers really are the best sometimes. I need to work on being more spontaneous!

That’s my old stomping grounds! I love Rumba. They have the best bartender. 🙂 I love the food at Miel too but the service could really be worked on. I’ve tried some sushi from SushiTeq and it is really good! I’ll have to try and make it back for a full dinner.

I’ve been to Miel in the Intercontinental, but never to Sushi Teq. I always wondered what it was like in there. Sounds like a perfect night! I just had a similar experience with my college roommate last night at Wolfie’s in Southie. Always great to feel energized by a meet up!
