Boston Wine Exchange

Pushing buttons on a machine that dispenses wine is fun and rewarding. I found this out last weekend when I finally made my way to the newly opened Boston Wine Exchange, a well stocked wine store with a tasting twist, located on Devonshire Street in the Financial District.

The store itself is a good size, and still has that wonderful fresh wood smell to it. Eamon was very helpful and kind enough to show me around and talk a little bit about the store with me. I browsed around and noticed wines in a range of prices and from many different regions, always a good sign.

Higher Priced Wines

If wine is not your thing, the Boston Wine Exchange also offers a great selection of beers from around the world. I can’t wait to bring my husband here so that he can browse the beer selection. It’s right up his alley!

The piece de resistance, of course was the wine tasting machine, located in the back of the store. The machine houses eight bottles of wine, and on this particular afternoon, they had four reds and four whites. The machine will allow customers to try a variety of wines before committing to buying a bottle or two, a really great idea for those of us who are always learning what wines we like.

With the push of a button, it dispenses a one ounce pour, more than enough to get a good taste of the wine. I tried two of the whites, one being a Wente Riesling which was really refreshing.  To be honest, I wanted to try all of the offerings, but those two tastes reminded me that I hadn’t eaten in hours. . . and needed to do so pronto!

Although I didn’t get to spend as much time as I would have liked in the store, I got a great first impression. Luckily, they have some great looking upcoming events, including their grand opening event on Tuesday, April 6, with Karl Wente from Wente Vineyards. If you visit their events website, you can get more information about the many events scheduled for April and even add them right to your Google calendar.

Sounds like the perfect place to visit on a warm and sunny Boston Saturday, no? 🙂

I wish I had known about this place the last time I had a meeting at Fidelity. I think their offices are on Devonshire. Or at least, they used to be…

A grocery store in Michigan that I went to had one of these. You could put money on a declining balance card and taste as much as you wanted. More places should definitely get these machines.

That sounds fantastic. I would love to check the store out and if Rialto falls through (which I left them a message this week) maybe we could do a wine tasting instead?
