Made in Massachusetts week continues with a favorite brunch cocktail made with a very local product, Fire Puncher Vodka from Grand Ten Distillery in South Boston. I paid a visit to Grand Ten with a group of bloggers earlier in the summer for a tasting, and when Lin and Jon invited us to join them for the official grand opening, I was excited to see their products were for sale. After enjoying a cocktail, we left with a bottle of Fire Puncher Vodka, a smoky, spicy libation I just knew would be delicious in a Bloody Mary.

Fire Puncher Vodka

Bloody Marys are an easy-to-make, delicious drink for brunch. A make-your-own Bloody Mary bar is the perfect way to allow guests to mix and match flavors and customize a drink that’s perfect for their palate.

This time around, I kept the Bloody Marys simple, letting the Fire Puncher be the star of the show. Trust me, it shines.

Like I do with most recipes, I eyeballed my Bloody Mary mix to make just enough for two.

Ingredients:

12 ounces of tomato juice

3 teaspoons grated horseradish

juice of one lemon

chipotle hot sauce to taste

black pepper to taste

tomato juice

chipotle hot sauce

horseradish

Simply stir Bloody Mary mix ingredients into a pitcher. Add ice to two glasses and pour an ounce or two (depending on how your morning’s going!) of the Fire Puncher Vodka over the ice. Top with Bloody Mary mix, stir, and enjoy.

For a variation on the above Bloody Mary mix, add some olive or pickle juice, clam juice, wasabi or lime. Garnish with shrimp or lobster, hot peppers, celery, pickles, or whatever else you like!

Do you like Bloody Marys? What are your favorite add-ins?

Who wants a cocktail? It’s Friday, and I am excited for a weekend in Stowe, Vermont. This week has been absolutely insane. Busy with work = good, A laptop that will only allow me to open one program at a time = a seriously stressful, frantic experience. I rely SO much on my laptop, and with it acting crazy, I have been kind of lost. There have been lots of tears, lost hours of work, and apologies for being out of touch.  I may have thrown a few things. I am just happy to leave it with the Geek Squad for the weekend and to hopefully relax a little.

Last night I decided to make a festive little cocktail utilizing some delicious LA Burdick hot chocolate mix that my friends recently sent. When my nana passed away, I really received an outpouring of love, from cards to the Burdick chocolate and tea, to a gift card to my favorite comfort food place in Boston, Myers + Chang. I’m a lucky girl.

I quickly went through the ingredients I had in the house and decided to make a Peppermint Frozen Hot Chocolate Martini. Sounds festive, right?

Like I usually do, I made the cocktail recipe up as I went along.

The ingredients:

LA Burdick dark hot chocolate mix

vanilla almond milk

peppermint extract

vodka

ice

cocoa powder

vodka

peppermint extract

I started by making the hot chocolate. Perhaps one of the best parts about this gift was the mini whisk that came along with it! I used the vanilla almond milk to make a nice, rich chocolate, then chilled it in the fridge until nice and cold.

When I was ready to whip up the cocktail, I got out two martini glasses and decorated them with a bit of cocoa powder. I love how easy it is to add a decorative rim to glasses. I just coated the edge in peppermint extract and then dunked them into a plate of cocoa powder.

I mixed about 3/4 cup of hot chocolate with a tablespoon of peppermint extract and a couple shots of vodka, added ice, shook it up, and then poured.

Overall, these cocktails were delicious, but I definitely went a little heavy on the peppermint. I would cut it in half next time. Whew, it was minty!

I would love to make these again with crushed candy cane on the glasses and perhaps Baileys as a nice, creamy addition.

Have a great weekend!

A cocktail loaded with antioxidants? Yes, please! When it comes to imbibing, my wine stash far, far outweighs the hard liquor we keep around the house. We usually only have vodka, Irish whiskey, and rum in the house which isn’t too shabby, but I definitely wouldn’t say we have a well stocked bar.

If I am in the mood for a cocktail, which is a pretty rare occasion, it tends to be something simple like a vodka tonic, but every now and then I try to get creative. Who doesn’t enjoy an icy cold cocktail once in awhile? Especially on hot and humid days like today, there is something about a fancy glass and pretty liquid refreshment.

My blueberry lemonade martini was inspired by the bottle of blueberry juice I buy each week at Trader Joe’s. Sometimes I mix it with water, sometimes in smoothies for an antioxidant boost, but I had never tried it in a cocktail before.

The cocktail is simple. I made two, using the following:

4 ounces Ketel One vodka

2 ounces limoncello

8 ounces blueberry juice

lots of ice for shaking, leave in the glass if desired

The vibrant purple color means it is good for you. Winking smile

The limoncello gave the cocktail that refreshing lemonade quality. All of the flavors went together beautifully, and I enjoyed sipping on this as my dessert.

Are you a cocktail person? What is your combination of choice?
