Thank you to Merci for hosting this chocolate giveaway! The winner is Dawn Monroe. Please email me with your contact info so I can have your prize sent!

When it comes to chocolate, I am fairly picky. I am not generally a sweets person (I KNOW. . . most people hat when people say that, but for me, it’s true.), but when I find a chocolate that’s smooth and offers layers of flavor rather than just in-your-face sweetness, I definitely enjoy it. Merci Chocolates fit that description to a T. They are so incredibly smooth and creamy, and with decadent flavors like coffee and cream, they are the perfect little treat at the end of the day. Or anytime.

Merci Chocolates

National Friendship week happened earlier this month, and to celebrate, Merci sent me a sweet kit containing their delicious European chocolates, a picture frame, a to-die-for dark chocolate candle (seriously, can’t stop smelling it), and a $25 gift card to Target! I was so excited to receive this fun package in the mail, and I am even more excited to be able to give away the same to you!

One lucky reader will win the following:

  1. $25 Target gift card
  2. 7 ounce box of merci chocolates
  3. A picture frame to display a photo of you and your friends
  4. A chocolate scented candle

To enter, simply leave a comment about why you love your friends, something fun you have done with your friends recently, or how a friend has really helped you. I will choose a winner on Friday, September 6.

Have a great long weekend!

This giveaway has ended. Thank you to Bestowed for offering me and one lucky reader a Bestowed box. The winner is Danielle T. Danielle, please email me at traveleatlove (@) gmail.com with your contact information. Thanks to all who entered!

Discover healthy foods you love, with a monthly delivery of samples from Bestowed. This month, I received a Bestowed review box, and since my focus on my health has really tanked with my busy work schedule, the timing was perfect.

Bestowed Box

The smart little orange box arrived in the mail, and I couldn’t wait to open it and see what was inside. I think that’s one of the most fun parts of Bestowed; it’s a nice little surprise.

My box contained a Zico coconut water, packets of Roots superfood powder, a Bakery on Main coconut cashew Truebar, GimMe seaweed cheddar cheese roasted seaweed crumbles, an Herban Essentials mini pack of aromatherapy towelettes, a packet of Artisana Organic Superfoods acai berry nut butter,  and a coupon for Dr. Praeger’s veggie burgers

Bestowed Box Bestowed Box Bestowed Box In addition to being a fun surprise, the Bestowed box is a great way to kickstart healthy eating and reintroduce nutrition and natural products back into ones life. I am a huge fan of Zico coconut water, Dr. Praeger’s products, and Artisana (huge fan) already, but I was thrilled to revisit them. I had never tried the acai berry nut butter, and it was amazing. Amazing. I want to fill my desk drawer with little packets of these nut butters for healthy and filling snacks.

I also really loved the Truebar; it was coconutty and delicious, a little dessert a little nutrition bar, all good. The Roots powder was pleasantly surprising. The blueberry really did taste like blueberry, and I felt a little boost in my energy when drinking it in the afternoon. I used to be a devotee to superfood drinks, and I definitely think I need to get back into that. My body deserves it, and my mind needs it.

I tried the seaweed snack, and while I liked it better than most dried seaweed, I will be honest and admit I wasn’t crazy about it. Nothing wrong with the product; I just don’t love seaweed unless it is in sushi! These crumbles might be good mixed up in a salad, especially with cucumber and shrimp, to emulate sushi. In fact, I might try making that this weekend!

Overall, I really loved the selection in the Bestowed box, and I am definitely thinking about joining so that I can try a selection of products every month.

Bestowed is offering me a one month membership for a lucky Travel, Wine, and Dine reader AND offering all of you a discount on a subscription. Just use the code 5OFFBSTOWED01 at checkout.

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment letting me know why you would like to win, and be sure to follow Bestowed on Twitter and like them on Facebook.

I will choose a winner on Wednesday. Good luck!

I’m sorry for the delay in choosing a winner for this delicious giveaway! The events in Boston recently definitely made me step away from blogging for awhile. I’m back now, and after meeting so many amazing therapy dogs on Boylston Street and feeling their healing powers firsthand, I am excited to announce that Noel is the winner of this giveaway. Please email me traveleatlove (@) gmail.com. Thank you, Gearharts Chocolates and Companions for Heroes!

How cute is this chocolate puppy? Well, I will have you know that, in addition to being adorable, he’s really delicious too. You can’t go wrong with handmade chocolate stuffed with homemade peanut utter, especially when it’s for a good cause.

Geartharts Chocolates started in Charlottesville, Virginia, a place I am dying to visit, and is headed up by Tim Gearhart, who learned his craft at the CIA. Tim’s career includes being stationed in Kuwait during the Gulf War where he served as a line cook. Now that he has his own delicious company, Tim is giving back with these Peanut Butter Pups, which benefit the organization Companions for Heroes.

Being a huge lover of animals, I was smitten with this idea the second I received the email. I have heard of Companions for Heroes before, and I love the idea of shelter pets healing wounded veterans and vice versa. There’s so much ugly happening in the world, but there’s so much possibility for kindness too. Animals, especially shelter pets, have a huge capacity for love, and it’s amazing to see them giving that to American heroes to help them heal.

I loved being able to sample Gearharts chocolates, and what’s even better, they are offering a box of Peanut Butter Pups to one lucky Travel, Wine, and Dine reader.

Just check out Gearharts website, and let me know, in addition to the pups, which of their fine chocolates you’d like to try.

I will choose a winner next Tuesday evening. If you are so inclined, please spread the word about the great partnership between this chocolatier and Companions for Heroes; it’s the perfect match!

GEARHARTS FINE CHOCOLATES INTRODUCES NEW LINE OF
PEANUT BUTTER PUPS

-“Pups” to Benefit Companions for Heroes-

Charlottesville, VA – April 1, 2013– Gearharts Fine Chocolates (www.gearhartschocolates.com) announces a new line of chocolates, Peanut Butter Pups, that will benefit Companions for Heroes (www.companionsforheroes.org), a non-profit organization that provides companion animals for war veterans. The “Pups,” inspired by children but enjoyed by all ages, resemble a miniature dachshund, with their elongated noses and dark brown eyes. The Peanut Butter Pups are now available in nine-piece boxes at Gearhart’s Richmond and Charlottesville, Va., store locations and online at a MSRP of $22.00.

clip_image002[4]The Pups are made from premium milk chocolate, cream and Virginia-based Reginald’s Homemade peanut butter, then finished with a dark chocolate face and toasted almond ears. In true Gearharts fashion, each piece is finished by hand and includes no additives or preservatives.

Five percent of sales of the Peanut Butter Pups will be donated to Companions for Heroes (C4H), formerly named Pets2Vets. C4H was founded in 2009 by David Sharp, an Air Force veteran who was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in 2003 after serving a tour in Iraq. Sharp saw his life change after rescuing a pit bull puppy from a local Virginia shelter. C4H pairs rescue animals with war veterans to aid our country’s heroes in their recovery, while at the same time provide shelter and rescue animals with good homes.

Chocolatier and Owner Tim Gearhart of Gearharts Fine Chocolates, began his culinary career in the Gulf War. After graduating from high school, Tim joined the Marines and served as a line cook in Kuwait. He attributes much of the patience and repetitive nature that now benefits him as a chocolatier to his time there, having to cook for up to 20,000 Marines a day.

“We’re excited to partner with Companions for Heroes,” said Tim. “I know firsthand what the men and women protecting our country go through when they serve tours, and it feels good to be able to do something for them when they come home.”
