Have you heard about The Good Belly Project?  Molly contacted me to let me about the initiative which her company started last week. It’s as easy as taking a picture of food at a participating restaurant, then sharing them. Something tells me we can do that. Winking smile

The Good Belly Project supports UNICEF in its efforts to fight famine in Somalia. Several Boston area restaurants have agreed to participate and it works like this:

Step 1: Visit a participating restaurant
Step 2: Take photos of your food and share them on Instagram for the iPhone using the hashtag #goodbellyproject
Step 3: For every photo taken and shared with that hashtag, the restaurant will donate $1 to UNICEF (If you take 10 photos during your meal, that’s $10 to UNICEF)

The Good Belly Project will run through November 6th. Participating restaurants include: Abigail’s, Bambara, Bergamot, Bon Me Food Truck, Figs Beacon Hill, Figs Charlestown, Fillbelly’s, Hillstone, Isabelle’s CurlyCakes, Island Creek Oyster Bar, Kingfish Hall, KO Prime, Market at the W Hotel, Naked Pizza, Rialto, Sibling Rivalry, Stephi’s on Tremont, and The Vault.

Boston has a new girls’ night out, and it’s at the Fairmont Battery Wharf’s recently opened Aragosta. Bella Notte Thursdays offer Boston ladies the chance to get together over cocktails and appetizers. Drink and food pairings are just $20, and they give groups of food-loving women the chance to mix and match from their carefully selected appetizer menu. On Thursday, I was lucky to be part of a group of blogger friends hosted by the Fairmont for an evening at the chef’s table. Lindsey organized everything, and I met her, along with Megan, Daisy, Bridget, and Elina and Ashley from the Fairmont for a delicious evening.

Aragosta

Sitting at a counter overlooking the busy but super organized kitchen was a feast for all of the senses. Chef David Daniels and his team never stopped moving, and it was a treat to watch our food being made. While we caught up with each other and awaited chef to work his magic, we nibbled on fresh, crusty bread, fruity olive oil, and olives. I was ravenous, and I was more than happy to have a couple pieces.

Instead of ordering, chef surprised us with a bunch of favorites from the Bella Notte menu. Some of the dishes I had tried before and loved, and others were new to me. The food kept coming, and in between lots of chatter, we kept eating.

Truffle rigatoni with warm goat cheese fondue – this was the ultimate comfort food, creamy, warm, with hints of truffle and a dollop of tomato paste that offset the creaminess. We had this over the summer when we were staying at the Boston Yacht Haven and had dinner at Aragosta, and I was excited to see it again.

Margherita flatbread with vine ripened tomatoes. In-season, locally sourced (when possible)ingredients are a staple in Aragosta’s menu, which changes multiple times throughout the year. Heirloom tomatoes went out of season, so chef changed up this flatbread to include tomatoes that were available. This crispy flatbread with flavorful, soft tomatoes had that little bit of smoky char that gives pizza that rustic flavor. It was divine.

Lobster and truffle crostini with white bean puree – need I say more? Lobster an truffle with creamy white beans, heaped on to crunchy crostini made for the perfect bite.

Of course, I washed everything down with a couple of glasses of Prosecco.

Baked veal and pancetta meatballs – Not always a huge meat eater, I was surprised to find that when we visited Aragosta in the summer, these meatballs were one of my favorites. They are soft, rich, and delightful.

Warm black mission figs wrapped in prosciutto with gorgonzola dolce – this could have easily been a dessert for me. I thought it to be one of the best dishes of the night, each bite complete with soft, sweet fig, salty prosciutto, and tangy, creamy gorgonzola dolce.

We truly had a feast, and it was the perfect food for sharing and spending time with friends. I love that Aragosta has created such a fun and delicious way for Boston’s ladies to get together. With the added bonus of nail polish changes and mini massages, Bella Notte Thursdays will definitely be something I will look forward to attending again.

Happy, happy Friday! As you might imagine, I had been worried about this week for quite some time, and I am feeling a major sense of the relief now that this little interview is over. It’s been a busy week of work and blogging events, and I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend. We have to take the boat out of the water which will require a day of work, but I am also hoping to wander around the Head of the Charles and to have some delicious brunch.

My favorite brunch in the world was again cemented last week when, on an errand in the burbs, we decided to check out Masa’s Woburn location. I have long proclaimed Masa as my favorite Boston brunch spot, and it’s suburban outpost was just as delectable. I started with a Bloody Mary, as spicy as they could make it, and they were not shy with the horseradish! I also chowed down on the pickled jalapeno, which I always think adds a nice touch. This drink is like a meal!

I usually pass the bread basket in a restaurant except for at Masa. Fresh, warm corn bread to adorn with three different spreads is usually devoured before our brunch entrees come. I am a big believer in corn bread, and I love start my brunch of this way.

And then comes the best part, my Southwest Eggs Benedict which feature biscuits, avocado, salsa, and a spicy Hollandaise. The flavors in this meal are outrageously good, and it is always cooked to perfection.

The chefs at Masa are not afraid of a perfectly runny egg. As I soaked it up with pieces of biscuit, I praised them aloud, proclaiming the dish a plate of awesome. Our server heard, and it made him laugh. But he did agree. Smile

The nice thing about the Masa in Woburn is that it was maybe 1/3 full during our brunch so it was very quiet as opposed to lots of city restaurants during brunch. It’s also next to a Whole Foods for stocking up on Grillo’s pickles and kombucha.

Lexington

Feeling relaxed and full after our perfect brunch, we decided to do some leaf peeping in nearby Lexington and Concord. I love how many historical sites and beautiful pastures dot the landscape in these areas, completely unassumingly. . . like oh hey, there’s the Little Women house! We definitely live in a great area for things like that.

Brunch and aimless driving made for a great Saturday with my favorite person.
