Summer has arrived, and there is no better place than New England to enjoy it! As much as I wish I could be a California girl, New England summers are what dreams are made of. . . beautiful weather, gorgeous beaches and seaside towns, lobster, corn, oysters, clams, local beer. . .

I have written a little about my weekend in Truro and Provincetown, but there is so much more. So much to do in these little towns at the tip of Cape Cod that I thought I would share a few to-do’s in case you find yourself up there.

Provincetown

Pull up to The Lobster Pot for a dozen raw oysters dressed with some kickin’ cocktail sauce, or stay for dinner and enjoy one of their home-cooked specialties and potent cocktails.

The Lobster Pot

Find a beautiful place for a picnic. We visited Cape Cod Light with sandwiches from Box Lunch, but the Cape is pretty much a giant picnic spot. We also visited some great Truro beaches, including Cold Storage Beach, which I discovered on a visit to another lovely Truro destination, Truro Vineyards. Wine tasting on Cape Cod? Absolutely! Buy a bottle of their signature Cranberry Red to sip on during those cool Cape evenings.

Go for a hike. The Truro and Provincetown area offers all sorts of trails for walking and is also a great place to rent a bike.

Cape Cod

Hit the beaches or tidal pools and look for wildlife! We saw seals at just about every beach we visited. Keep a close watch for those adorable bobbing black heads, and you might seen some too.

Or head out on a whale watch. My family loves whale watching, whether it be from Boston or the Cape, and Provincetown is definitely a great place to start. You can also grab a sunset sail or take matters into your own hands (and get a great workout!) with a rented kayak.

Other great places to eat in the area?

The Squealing Pig, Provincetown – traditional Irish pub fare with fresh ingredients, a fun and busy vibe, and a great beer list

Bayside Betsy’s – water views, a crazy fun cocktail list, and delicious food like lobster ravioli, great for a girls’ night out!

Front Street – Cozy, romantic, with delicious, comforting food, again, perfect for those chilly Cape nights.

Be sure to bring plenty of comfy clothes, flip flops, sunscreen, and your best beach reads. . . and have a relaxing weekend or vacation at the beach!

Boston-area food lovers, listen up! You need to make a road trip or a ferry trip up to Truro this summer to experience eat @Adrian’s, the Cape Cod summer home to Boston’s Eat and chef in residence, Will Gilson, formerly of Garden at the Cellar.

Adrian’s is light, open, and beachy, with nice little touches like fresh rosemary plants and candles in jars of sand on the tables. There are, of course, Eat stamps everywhere. We decided to listen to the message and went for it.

Creative, handcrafted cocktails started off the evening. I went for the Beyond the Garden, a refreshing blend of Champagne, Hendrick’s, rosemary simple syrup, and lemon. It had a very clean, crisp, herbaceous flavor to it.

After initially being a little skeptical about fish charcuterie, we decided that we had to have it. It was an excellent decision; the fish charcuterie is as delicious as it is innovative. Bluefish pate, pickled sunchoke, calamari and halibut bratwurst, yellowfin, and melt in your mouth beet cured scallops were served with pumpernickel and plain bread chips and Dijon mustard. Everything was so flavorful. The pate was especially rich and addictive.

The use of edible flowers and herbs to decorate the board, alongside the colors of the food made it truly edible art.

dates

We also shared bacon wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese and hazelnuts, sweet little bites full of creamy goat cheese with a surprise hazelnut crunch at the very end.

clam chowder

I didn’t try the clam chowder, but it looked like a meal in itself. I DID have a few bites of the frisee salad which was topped with a perfectly poached egg.

We were pretty full by the time our entrees arrived, but I still ate as much of my chicken as I could. It was perfectly moist and tender, surrounded by confit potatoes, spring onion, and rapini, served with a smoky tomato-y paste on the plate.

We couldn’t get over just how good every single bite was. If only we had saved room for dessert.  . .

The service at Eat @ Adrian’s was also great, maybe a little too much hovering, but the restaurant was not yet crowded. I have a feeling it will be soon. . .

We followed this amazing dinner a couple hours later with cocktails and dessert at the new Ten Tables in Provincetown, also amazing, an adorable, beautiful space, a great cocktail list, and a chocolate terrine with Thai basil ice cream that was to die for.

Truro and Provincetown are definitely dining destinations. And with all of that natural beauty who needs a reason to visit?

Happy Solstice! With a busy week ahead, I am still reflecting on my beachy mini vacation last weekend. . .

Part of the Cape trip tradition is a yummy breakfast, and last year my friend Raija started making us her uncle’s famous waffle recipe for breakfast. Luckily she was willing to share the recipe with all of us!  I paired my waffle with a bowl of cherries and a spicy Bloody Mary 😉

Since it was cloudy and a bit chilly last weekend, we opted to hang out at the beach in front of our cottage. It was a lot of fun spending the morning doing nothing but catching up. The scenery was pretty amazing as well.

After lots of relaxing, it was time to head to the Taste of Truro at Truro Vineyards. We last visited the vineyards a few weeks ago, and I was excited to attend another event at this beautiful property and to try more Truro Vineyards wines.

First we had a little photo shoot.

Then it was time to do some wine tasting! I ran into the fabulous Mara who I met at the Coastal Wine Trail kickoff and who also happens to have a really great blog, and she recommended the 2008 Maritime Zinfandel which is brand new and which I was already eyeing up, given my Zinfandel love.

It was really good! It had some great berry flavors and a little bit of spice. It was actually the perfect choice for the day that was in it, and I instantly wanted to pair it with broiled salmon with cherry compote.

I also split a glass of Vignoles with my friend; I had really enjoyed its crisp, fruity flavors at the Coastal Wine Trail Kickoff and liked it just as much a second time.

One thing that was different than our last visit to the vineyard were the vines themselves! Tiny little grapes are everywhere just waiting to spend their summer taking in the sun and growing big and fat to make more wine for us! 😉 It’s just so interesting to watch the weather and to see its affect on the grapes and thus the wine itself. Hopefully it will be a good year.

The Taste of Truro had a variety of delicious food offerings from local restaurants as well which made it perfect to try out new places. These clams with chorizo looked and smelled amazing.

There was also lobster chowder, arancini, whole grains salad, and a variety of other treats. I love “Taste of” events. Luckily this week I am going to Taste of Cambridge!

Taste of Truro, like the rest of my visit to the Cape, was a great way to spend time with friends. We followed our wine adventure with a trip back into Provincetown, some dress shopping, oysters with some killer spicy horseradish at The Lobster Pot, and finally dinner at Front Street, an incredible P-town restaurant that deserves its own post!

I hope you are all having a great Monday so far. I am so excited for the week ahead; there is lots of fun to be had at a variety of blogger events, and I can’t wait to see everyone, eat great food, drink good wine, and to have lots to blog about!  I will also be introducing my “Dinner in 10” and “Wine from Where?” series that I hope to keep going periodically on the blog. Finally, I am excited to say that based on my BBQ & Beer post, the husband decided he does indeed need to have Buster’s BBQ in Calistoga on his birthday. We are going to wine country in July! Woop woop!

Siggi’s winners will be announced on Wednesday, so don’t forget to enter!
