It’s amazing how, the second Labor Day weekend was over, my email inbox starting filling up with event invitations. August was dead quiet, and I not-so-secretly like that. Summer is for barefoot evenings curled up in a patio chair enjoying the sunset. Fall, however, is for reconnecting, catching up, and kicking off events’ season. I am always a fan of wine for a good cause and am happy to share Raise Your Glass for Jimmy, a wine event happening this October 2. Please see below for details.

The sixth annual Raise Your Glass for Jimmy presented by the Jimmy Fund Council of Greater Boston will take place 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2at the Battery Wharf Hotel in Boston. All proceeds support adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Admission to the event includes a wide variety of beers and wines to taste from August West Wines, Blue Hills Brewery, Boston Bottle, Gordon’s Fine Wines and Liquors, Mayflower Brewery, Medusa Brewery, M.S. Walker, Plymouth Bay Winery, and Wormtown Brewery. The event also includes hors d’oeuvres, live music, and a silent auction.

Tickets are $75 per person, and early bird pricing is available with two tickets for $125 if purchased before Sept. 21. The first 150 guests at the door will receive a $25 gift certificate from Tresca. For more information, visit www.jimmyfund.org/raise-your-glass.

After a winter of hibernating, traveling, and being sick for about five weeks,  life has kicked into go-go-go. We’re away almost every weekend, I have some exciting new work projects, I’ve been *trying* to run, and of course, we have been sampling Boston’s delicious dining scene. Below are a few favorite shots over the past few weeks. Feel free to share where you’ve been out and about!

Stephi's in Southie Cocktails

We made our first visit to Stephi’s in Southie on the way to my birthday dinner at Moonshine 152 and we have been back several times since. I love that the bar is big and spacious and that they have wine flights. Their cocktails are also delicious. The above is a whiskey drink with a float of Malbec. It was SO good.

Below are Stephi’s nachos, which are epic. We weren’t even planning on getting food, but we saw someone else get these and had to have them. To.die.for. Maybe I should be doing more running. . .

While I was recovering from the severe flu/dengue fever that I had in March, I went through a period of being really, really down, and one night just needed to get out of the house. We decided to check out the Tavern at Quarry Hills at the Granite Links Golf Club. The views of Boston and the ocean are stunning, and the food and drinks and service are all excellent. Definitely get the bacon fondue with apples and croutons.

Tavolo, a quick walk from home, has become our favorite after work spot for its pizzas, pasta, cocktails, and of course, desserts. We love one of the bartenders there, and it’s just a really good community spot. It’s hard not to go every night.

Myers + Chang is a tried (many times) and true favorite, and you can trust their menu to delight your senses. Fried oysters topped with a pineapple concoction were the perfect antidote to yet another gray and cold Boston day.

Finally, we have drinks and apps at Temezcal. There was one day this Spring that was nice enough to sit outside, so we met friends and enjoyed Temezal’s gorgeous patio views and stellar margaritas. I like mine spicy so went with the Picante, which includes blood orange puree and habanero-infused simple syrup. Yum.

It’s Friday afternoon and time for the Friday Foodie Feature! It’s been awhile since I have gotten a foodie to feature, but I am happy to say I have a few coming up, and I always welcome more. I love sharing this spot with other bloggers!

Today’s featured foodie is Stephanie from The Cookie Battle. I discovered Stephanie’s blog, like many other wonderful things, through the magic of Twitter, and I have enjoyed reading about her food and exercise adventures. I also really enjoy her writing style, and she’s a Boston girl. What’s not to love?

I am off to Napa tomorrow, but I will be blogging my wine country adventures whenever I can. Be sure to check in! And have a wonderful weekend, friends!

How long have you been blogging?

I started my blog on February 17th, 2010, so I just had my one year blogiversary! I took a long hiatus in the middle, but have been blogging consistently since August. It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year! I had a few short lived blogs before The Cookie Battle, one fitness related and one entertainment related, before I discovered my true blogging passion of food (specifically cookies). And so The Cookie Battle was born 🙂

What is your favorite thing about blogging? Least favorite?

My favorite thing about blogging is the comments. I love hearing what people have to say when I ask questions at the bottom of my posts. I love getting other people’s opinions and thoughts about what I write, and to know people can relate to me and what I’m writing about. I still get excited every time I get a new comment!

My least favorite thing is there are times when I feel as though all I do is focus on the blog…whether it be writing, photographing, promoting, etc. and it takes away from my 9-5 job and my relationships. It’s all about finding a balance though. I’ve gotten a lot better at juggling.

What has been your most fun blog post to write?

My favorite post to write was My First Race (http://www.thecookiebattle.com/2011/01/my-first-race.html) just because it was a moment I was proud of and a great memory. It also kickstarted this lovely little habit I call running 😉

Where do you see your blog this time next year?

It’s hard to say where my blog will be next year, because I never would have imagined I would be where I am now with it. Over the next year I hope my blog and my readership will continue to grow and I will evolve as blogger and improve my recipes, my photography, and my content.

Is there anything else about your blogging experience you would like to share?

Blogging has become so much more than just blogging to me. I have made some great friends through my blog and continue to be inspired by this incredible community that I’m proud to be a part of.
