Welcome Megan from the blog Stetted.com! I love Megan’s blog with its adventurous recipes and her commitment to using CSA and local ingredients. I think her goal of doubling blog readership in 2010 is amazing and one I would love to reach myself! And I love the photo she submitted for the Friday Foodie Feature!

Stetted

How long have you been blogging?
Let’s see … if we want to get specific I started a LiveJournal waaaay back in March 2001. I cringe to think of the contents of that.
I’ve been at stetted.com since August 2006, but for a long time it was just a catch-all sort of blog. Right at the start of 2009 it got more food focused and I’m pleased with the direction I’m heading. It might have taken a while to get here, but it was good to figure out what I wanted to do, especially after having a baby.

What is your favorite thing about blogging? Least favorite?
It has been really great connecting with like-minded people, especially in a fast-food-crazed country. I also love the times I’m able to share a story with my recipes. I feel I’m really letting people see a part of me and not just the food I’m making, and when someone lets me know they like a post it feels great.
My least favorite thing about blogging is the pressure. Once you really get into blogging there is a quiet (and sometimes not-so-quiet) pressure that builds to get you to create more posts and better posts. I feel like there are a lot of bloggers out there trying to be the next Julie Powell or Pioneer Woman and fall to the pressure of being important, instead of just being themselves. I think it helps me that many of my posts don’t get comments because I know exactly why I’m doing this: because I love food and writing.

What has been your most fun blog post to write?
I really enjoyed this post  about the Daring Bakers’ macaron challenge. It reminded me of the wonderful time I had in Paris with my husband before our baby was born, and I was super excited to reveal to the world the Bacon and Cheddar Macaron. I’m not sure I could re-create that macaron, but it sure was fun!

Where do you see your blog this time next year?
One of my goals for 2010 was to double my readership. Eek! I’m hoping that over the course of the year I’ll continue to develop and put out some really great posts. Hopefully I’ll get over one of the things I’m terrible at: networking. I miss out on a lot of opportunities to introduce myself and my blog because I’m incredibly shy and nervous about first impressions!
I have lots of things on my radar that I want to have my blog involved in, so I hope those plans come to fruition and I can share them with everyone.

Is there anything else about your blogging experience you would like to share?
Going to the Foodbuzz Blogger Festival was amazing. I’m a fairly shy person and generally am pretty terrible at small talk, but it was easier there. There were still plenty of people I never got the gumption to go say hello to, but the fact that I even went to San Francisco by myself and didn’t hide in the hotel room was pretty huge. I also ate so many wonderful things I wouldn’t have thought of trying, like brussels sprouts, oxtail, and mushrooms. OK, mushrooms aren’t weird or anything, but I grew up with those little gray pieces in cream of mushroom soup equalling mushroom and parents who claimed mushrooms only taste like what they are cooked with. (Not true, they taste like mushrooms!) I’m already looking forward to this year’s festival.
I think anyone who is serious about blogging should attend some form of blogging conference. There are a ton out there, and even if you can’t get to an official conference there are always other local bloggers lurking around the corner. Try out a few online communities as well, until you find your niche. In the meantime you can make some great contacts and friends!

Happy Friday! While I am working a half day, then getting ready to head to Ireland, I wanted to share a post from Gina of the blog Simply Life. Gina makes amazing food, it seems like every single day that she has gorgeous photos and recipes posted! She is also a runner and an overall super sweet and interesting blogger.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I’ve always loved to cook, eat, and find new recipes but blogging has turned this common activity into something even more special that I can remember for more than a day or two and and am also able to share with others!

Least favorite?

Learning all the new things about computers, layouts, HTML view, etc! I’ve never been one who uses the computer for much more than checking email, Word documents and reading the news but blogging has challenged me to learn MUCH more than that!  I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to learn so much already, I just know I have a far way to go and not enough time 🙂

What has been your most fun blog post to write?

My post about homemade tapas has been my favorite!  Spanish tapas are one of our favorite types of food but I’ve always been too intimidated to try making them on my own.  Although I still think that many restaurants prepare tapas better, I loved being able to learn the basics and the chance to enjoy some of our favorite foods at home!

Where do you see your blog this time next year?

Great question!  I hope it’s a bit more organized – I keep adding new categories and haven’t quite figured out how I want to arrange everything since I never really know what the next change in my blog will be!  I also hope that I learn a lot more about blogging and that Simply Life reflects that 🙂

Is there anything else about your blogging experience you would like to share?

That I definitely don’t photograph or blog about everything I eat!  I most often post about dinners we’ve made at home or eaten out, but often times if we’re with company I don’t bring my camera, and I also don’t think people are too interested in the nights where our dinner instructions include “opening the can of soup and heating it up on the stove!”  🙂

Also, I always truly read and appreciate EVERY comment on my blog and get so excited to hear people’s responses and to be able to start learning about new blogs and foods that are out there!

Thank You Meghan for allowing me to participate in this!  Your blog has definitely been a great influence on places we try, trips we’d love to take and wines we need to taste! 🙂

Happy Friday! While you are reading this, I am on my way to Arizona to work for the weekend. Only one more week until some relaxation in Ireland!

Today’s Friday Foodie Feature is a blogger a lot of you may already know, Brandi from the blog Bran Appetit. Brandi always has great food posts and from reading her blog for the past six months or so, I have gotten the sense that she is just a great person and a lot of fun to be around. Prior to the Foodbuzz Festival, Brandi was chosen as a Nature’s Pride Brand Ambassador, and I couldn’t have been happier for her and her delicious recipe! I even got to  meet Brandi when she was cooking in the Nature’s Pride kitchen at the Festival. Hope you all enjoy the Friday Foodie Feature, and you should be seeing some pictures of sunny Arizona soon!

How long have you been blogging?  One year as of January 14th (coming up soon!)

What is your favorite thing about blogging?  I love making new meals and showing new ideas..and making friends with some amazing bloggers and readers. Least favorite? Having to deal with technology when it’s not cooperating :/

What has been your most fun blog post to write? Although not food related at all, I think my recap posts from my trip to Honduras this summer were the most fun to put together and share. It was an amazing trip, and it was awesome to be able to relive it. There’s a few posts:

Where do you see your blog this time next year? Oh, I don’t know! Hopefully going strong and still just as fun as it is now. I just want to be sharing stuff with my family and friends, creating new recipes, and finding good ways to write about it and remember all these experiences.

Is there anything else about your blogging experience you would like to share?
I was reading blogs for a few years before I jumped in with my own. I’m just so happy to be part of a growing community – I get so much inspiration and support from other bloggers, and I’ve made some amazing friends in the past year. I hope it continues!

Thanks, Brandi!

I am seeking foodies to feature in upcoming weeks. Interested? Email me at traveleatlove2009@hotmail.com with responses to the questions in this post!
