I won’t lie, I am tired. I read so many fitness and healthy living blogs, and it seems like everyone recovers from endurance events super fast. Not me. My legs feel fine, and I am not in horrible shape, but I feel a little more tired than normal for sure, and I am looking forward to the weekend. Tonight I am attending Healthworks post marathon celebration, and for the rest of the weekend, who knows? Sleeping and eating are definitely part of the plan. I started laying out my May calendar last night, and there are so many fun events coming up! Wine tastings, wine dinners, oyster festivals, weekend trips and lots more to come!  This may be one of the last kind of quiet weekends for  awhile, so I am going to relish it. What are you doing this weekend?

Today I am pleased to feature the lovely Kate from the blog WhatKateAte. I have just recently started reading Kate’s blog; like so many other great things I found it via Twitter. She has some great recipes and tasty looking photos, not to mention an incredible, inspiring healthy weight loss story. She’s a great writer, and I am very excited that she responded to my tweet seeking foodies to feature.

Enjoy today’s Friday Foodie Feature, and be sure to check out Kate’s blog if you haven’t already!

What Kate Ate

How long have you been blogging?
I started WhatKateAte the day after I returned home from spending a month in Greece (January 18th). I had toyed with the idea of starting a blog for some time, but I wanted to make sure that I could dedicate as much time and energy as I wanted into the project before I committed. Sure enough, I took the leap and slowly I have been finding what works for me and I haven’t looked back!

What is your favorite thing about blogging? Least favorite?
Part of the reason why I have found success in the realm of healthy living is due to the inspiration and information I found on food blogs – now I’m part of that community. It’s wonderful to be able to share my story with so many people who can relate and also to extend my experience to those who are in the process of making healthy changes in their lifestyle.  I also really enjoy being able to write about topics that I’m passionate about: food, the environment, swimming, and yoga.

My biggest challenge of being a blogger is that I sometimes find myself unnecessarily comparing myself to other bloggers.  After discovering this in myself, it made me realize that part of my healthy living journey is learning to compare my current self with my old self, since that is really the measurement that matters.

What has been your most fun blog post to write?
I really enjoyed the recent post that I did where I shared some photos of my trip to Greece.  One of the fabulous things about blogging is that you can look back at any day and have an instant flashback through photos and dialogue, and I really love that experience.

Where do you see your blog this time next year?
This time next year will be a huge time of transition for me in my life and I hope to have the privilege of being able to blog through the changes on

It’s Boston Marathon weekend! Today I plan on going to the marathon expo to pick up my bib number and race packet, tomorrow I am heading to Wine Riot and a carb filled dinner at Prezza, and Sunday my marathon charity, The ALLY Foundation, is having a pasta party for runners. I am excited and nervous! Really nervous! I will be posting all weekend, all about the Wine Riot, dinner, the pasta party, the marathon expo, and the MARATHON, so please check back often. Your support has been so crucial to this whole training period, and I will definitely use it as motivation this weekend!

Now to the Friday Foodie Feature! Today we have Nicole from the wonderful Cooking with Coley. Nicole’s blog makes you feel like you are a guest in her kitchen, and it features lots of delicious recipes and really great photos. We share a love of Google Analytics 🙂 as I too am a little obsessed with my (meager!) traffic. I am really looking forward to following what Nicole cooks next!

Cooking with Coley

How long have you been blogging?
I’m still a newbie to the blogging thing, but I’m no newbie to the blogosphere.  With a PR background, I spend quite a bit of time exploring the Web and even pitching bloggers, so it’s been really exciting for me to be on the other side. www.cookingwithcoley.com was just launched in January 2010.

What is your favorite thing about blogging? Least favorite?
There are so many things I love about blogging – the excitement of capturing a new dish on camera, the anticipation of what responses and comments I’ll receive from my readers and friends and the sheer pleasure it brings me as I multitask on my couch while watching TV.
I should also mention that I love Google Analytics. Seriously.  Although it might sound weird, every day the first thing I do when I log onto my computer is check my analytics (go ahead, you can laugh at me).  While the results are usually nothing to boast about, I get excited to see the traffic numbers.  Yes, I’m that lame.
Least ?
Right now there’s nothing that comes to mind!

What has been your most fun blog post to write?
There’s no question about this one – it was my first recipe post ever on my signature dish – Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps.  Friends and family had so often asked me to give them recipes (especially this one), so for months and months I kept saying I was going to create a recipe blog for them pull my recipes from.  The day I finally wrote and posted my first recipe gave me such a rush – it was a combination of exhilaration and fulfillment.  I had rediscovered my love for writing and brought my passion for cooking to life.

Where do you see your blog this time next year?
Probably with 10,000 unique monthly visitors, a dozen major advertisers and exploding with content.  OK, I am being facetious.  If I have 1000 monthly visitors, I think I’ll be ecstatic!  I honestly don’t know where this is going, but I’m enjoying every bit of it along the way and am excited to see where this journey takes me.

Is there anything else about your blogging experience you would like to share?
It’s more of a fun fact… www.cookingwithcoley.com was originally launched as NicForMasterChef.com.  Sounds like a weird name, right?  Well, it’s sort of a fun story.  On Sunday, January 10, 2010, I tried out at a Master Chef casting audition in Newton along with 200 other Bostonians (Master Chef is a new show coming to Fox about amateur chefs). I had to plate my signature dish (lettuce wraps) and serve it to the judges. From there I was asked back with about 20 other people to round two where I did an on-camera interview for nearly 30 minutes, where I then qualified for round three – part of the top 10 in Boston!

As part of the third round, I had a few days to pull together raw footage that captured me and my life – friends, family, my kitchen and of course me cooking!  To supplement my footage, and help me stand out, I created the blog NicForMasterChef in hopes it would show the judges and producers that I should be on the show and have what it takes.

Unfortunately, I never ended up making it on the show (I guess reality TV wasn’t my calling!), but I am so appreciative and thankful for what I took away from the experience.  By creating the blog, I rediscovered my interest in writing and found a new outlet to pursue that passion.  At the same time, I was able to couple it with my growing fondness of food and cooking… and from there Cooking with Coley was born.

Thanks so much, Nicole!

Friday definitely always comes faster when I am nervous about a long run! I am going 21 miles tomorrow, the longest I will be running during this marathon training season, and I am pretty scared! I have done it before, and I think that’s why I am so nervous; I know how difficult it is going to be!

Still, I am excited that it is the weekend and even more excited to introduce Michelle from Fun and Fearless in Beantown as the Friday Foodie Feature! I love Michelle’s blog and tweets, especially because she is a fellow Bostonian and always seems to have great suggestions and dining experiences. And she is super sweet. Her blog was recently featured on Boston.com; once you check it out, you will see why! I haven’t met Michelle yet, but I hope to soon. Boston blogger meet up anyone? 😉

How long have you been blogging?

I started my blog in July of 2008 as a personal online diary.  I was inspired by my friend Kim who has a blog about her Ironman training (she’s a two-time Ironman athlete) and it motivated me to start my own blog about my “fun and fearless” adventures in Boston (hence the really long title to my blog).  I only had a few readers, which were close friends of mine.  As my blog started to get a more defined focus on food, cooking and restaurant dining experiences, my readership started to grow.

What is your favorite thing about blogging? Least favorite?

I write about the food that I truly enjoy (whether cooking or eating) and have been thrilled to meet people who share this same interest.  So I’d have that my favorite aspect of blogging is meeting so many wonderful food bloggers at some fabulous food and wine events – all because of this blog!

I think every non-professional food blogger can agree that the most difficult part of food blogging is finding the time to do it all.  I work full-time as an attorney and I cook regularly but the process of taking photos and writing is always time consuming.  There are so many great restaurant experiences and recipes that never make it to my blog because sometimes you just want to eat or cook without taking notes and photos along the way.

What has been your most fun blog post to write?

Last month my boyfriend and I went to a flourless chocolate cake cooking demonstration and port tasting at Troquet in Boston (http://funandfearlessinbeantown.blogspot.com/2010/02/flourless-chocolate-cake-and-port.html). I love cooking demonstrations because you can learn something and then of course taste what you’ve learned!  In this instance, how could you not love tasting chocolate cake?  This was such a fun event for both of us to experience and it was great to meet some local food bloggers.

Where do you see your blog this time next year?

I want to continue to find strength and confidence in my writing.  Until recently, my writing was mostly focused on my cooking experiences and restaurant reviews.  I’ve started to expand my blog to include food product reviews and also participate in food and wine events.  As the subject matter of my blog expands, I want to continue writing quality pieces in my own voice.

Is there anything else about your blogging experience you would like to share?

Although he refuses to take credit for it, my boyfriend Bret takes a lot of the photos for my blog.  You can definitely tell which photos are his and which ones are taken by me from my Canon One Shot.  My favorite blog posts are the ones that we experience (i.e. cook or dine out) together – where I write and he takes the photographs.  For us, cooking, eating and blogigng about food is done together with love and something that brings us closer together in our relationship.

Thanks, Michelle for sharing your blogging experience with us!
