Just like the name, it is sunny and delightful, one of the best parts of summer. I simply love a clambake, especially one by the beach. Lobsters, clams, mussels, corn, potatoes, and butter are, together with sunshine, the most perfect foods.

Just as clambakes cheerfully punctuate summer, so does the 2012 Clambake Chardonnay, from the Santa Lucia highlands.

This Chardonnay is not the California Chardonnay you may have come to expect (Though really, that has changed so much!)

Clambake Chardonnay

This Chardonnay is bright and acidic, refreshing, fun, flirty, and perfect for pairing with food It definitely has a hint of richness and body, but there’s no overpowering oak or butterscotch in sight. Or taste.

Clambake Chardonnay

I could drink this delicious wine with roasted clams and drawn butter, and it would go perfectly with some of my favorite summer dishes, like this Grilled Corn Salad. Summer wine, like summer food, should be fresh, tasty, and most of all help you make those relaxed memories you’ll hold on to long into the winter.

A few weeks ago, I attended a party and wine tasting for Richer Pour, the company that is taking the wine scene by storm with its fine wine on tap. We got to check out their Fort Point area headquarters, and more importantly enjoy fresh wine while mingling with blogger friends. It was a fun night out! I was particularly taken by their Prosecco. Now, we all know how much I love bubbly, but Prosecco, due to its sometimes cloying fake pear notes, is often my last choice. The Rocher Pour Prosecco is not that at all. It’s super fresh, with nice acidity to keep out that cloying sweetness. I also really loved the Chenin Blanc, the wine everyone seemed to be talking about! The Chenin is such a fun wine, leaning a little toward a Viognier with its richness and cooked fruit notes.

At any rate, we all enjoyed the wines and learned a little secret. Not only were the Richer Pour wines going to be in many, many Boston restaurants. . . they can also be in your fridge! The Wine on Tap box brings you quality wine that stays fresh for 30 days, meaning you don’t have to open it up and finish it yourself! It’s great for parties, but also ideal for those who only have one or two people drinking the wine. Below I have included information on the Richer Pour Tap Box and on the Richer Pour company. Happy Friday, friends! Enjoy the weekend!

Summer days are here at last, and easy, inexpensive wine is here to stay, at least until pumpkin beer makes its too early appearance in August. We picked up a Yalumba Vermentino from Australia on a recent Bin Ends wine trip, and it paired perfectly with a leisurely back yard evening dinner made up of snacks: salami, cheese, crackers, veggies, and hummus.

Vermentino, which originates in Italy, is fresh and fun, with zippy acidity and lemon notes with a kick of mineral flavors. It’s nice and dry and would be a crowd pleaser at any barbecue or summer outing. This wine sells for around $8 a bottle, so it is definitely something you won’t mind sharing or opening up on a random weeknight, just to celebrate nice weather.
