Boston’s restaurant scene is growing way faster than I can keep up, and often instead of checking out new spots, we end up going to old favorites.

Summer Fridays are in full effect, and recently we had a leisurely late lunch on the back patio of Select Oyster Bar. The patio was empty, and it was perfectly humid out. . . I know many people don’t love humidity, but give me all the summer!

Also, give me all of the Ulacia Hondarribi Zuri wine from the Basque region. This wine had so many mineral notes and was absolutely perfect with a seafood feast.

We shared a few different plates, starting with the dayboat scallop ceviche with Fresno chilis. I am currently obsessed with scallops, and the flavors in this really brought out the freshness of the scallops, with a bit of zippy acidity and heat.

Oysters and shrimp were must-haves for us, Damariscotta oysters for the win! I am such a huge fan of these little oysters from Maine, and when they are the right size, could eat dozens all by myself.

We also loved the perfectly executed hamachi crudo, complete with a fresh, light fruity sauce that we wanted to lick off of the plate.

We rounded out lunch with the avocado toast, because you just have to have it!  It was perfect for filling us up and adding some carbs to our meal. It doesn’t seem like a ton of food, but we ended up missing dinner because we were so full!

We’ve had a hectic life as of late, with both of us working and getting used to life with a newborn = not sleeping. Taking time out to breathe and enjoy great food and wine is so rejuvenating for our souls, and we are lucky to steal away for these moments.

We’ve made it a full two weeks at home with a newborn! It’s been quite the adjustment, but for the most part, it’s also just been really fun. Myles is a very sweet baby who likes to eat as much as we do, and it turns out that this is the best time to get out and about with a child.

Brunch and breweries and even a dinner date have occurred, and he has slept through it all.

Our first brunch out was with friends to Ashmont Grill, where I made my triumphant return to brunching with a bucket of bubbles and delightfully runny eggs in a spicy, perfect shakshouka with homemade, warm and puffy bread.

Myles snoozed in the booth alongside us, wrapped in his BAA-themed blue and yellow blanket since it was Boston Marathon weekend.

I can’t even deal with how cute he is. . .

I promised not to be that mom who posts a million pictures a day, but he is pretty spectacular.

Continuing with the “we barely ever leave Dorchester” theme, we had a dinner date for three at Tavolo, one of our favorites. I love the space at Tavolo, and Brian at the bar is the best.

Gnocchi with cream sauce, asparagus, and crispy prosciutto was heavenly.

On our second Sunday at home, we brunched again, this time thanks to a gift card to Steel & Rye, another absolute favorite. It was chock full of #babieswhobrunch; I think we are catching onto something here. Brunch is at a good time of day for babies and tired parents who have been up forever. It’s usually got the perfect level of noise in case of any fussing, and there are drinks!

We kicked brunch off with some delicious apple bread with honey butter, the bread having almost a custard-like consistency, something I could have easily eaten all day long.

Since I had been missing smoked salmon, I went with the perfectly crispy potato pancake topped with salmon, avocado, creme fraiche, and greens. Holy amazing.

We know that the baby won’t be this portable forever, so we are enjoying dates out and about now and have so many places and people to show him. It’s fun that his birth coincided with the arrival of real spring weather. . . it is a beautiful season of year and of life indeed!

In case you missed it, I blogged about our stay at Sonesta ES Suites Burlington, Vermont here.

Our weekend in Burlington was a cold one, but it sure was cozy, and one of the restaurants we found (and visited three times!) really helped to make it special.

On a very chilly morning, we needed a place to get out of the cold and stumbled upon Leunig’s Bistro, which not only occupies a corner of the Church Street Marketplace with its adorable cafe and bistro, but also has a pastry kiosk right across the pedestrian street.

I was instantly smitten with both, and while we needed heat most, I knew we would be back to visit Leunig’s Petit Bijou at some point during our stay.

A rich and delicious hot chocolate at Leunig’s bar was the perfect respite from winter, and the lovely staff made us feel at home and unrushed as we enjoyed our chocolate and read the paper. The pace and the warmth of the space was so nice; it definitely felt far from the hustle and bustle of our Boston lives.

Isn’t it just beautiful? It’s rare that we spend an hour just sitting and enjoying a hot drink early in the day, and this was the perfect start to our Burlington wandering.

We loved it so much, in fact, that when it came time to find a place for dinner, we made our way back to Leunig’s to see if there was any possibility of getting a table without a reservation. While the restaurant was full, we were in luck that they keep some tables for walk-ins, and the hostess happily let us know that there was room for us.

We got settled into a cozy table and looked at the extensive menus, unsure how we would decide. We wanted mussels and fries and all the salads and truffle fries and onion soup. . . and all of the entrees.

While we decided, I also noticed that they had a nice menu of non-alcoholic drinks like the refreshing pineapple sage sour that I went with for my “cocktail”.

In the end, after devouring a basket of fresh rolls and Vermont butter, we went with the petit portions of steak frites (with truffle fries, of course) and Beef Bourguignon. I rarely finish anything, so I love when smaller portions are offered, and the size of these was perfect.

This was amazing comfort food at its absolute finest. Perfect fries, a delectably medium rare steak, creamy horseradish. . .

And my Beef Bourguignon was a melt-in-your-mouth feast. It must have cooked all day. The rich and incredibly tender meat was complemented by onions and crisp green beans and the creamiest garlic mashed potatoes. I need to make this at home when I am able to drink wine again. I know it’s a time-consuming dish, but it is so worth it!

After dinner we took a nice walk around Burlington before heading back to Leunig’s Petit Bijou for hot chocolates with French vanilla whipped cream, paired with one of their homemade chocolate croissants, which we decided to save for a cozy breakfast the next day.

We fell in love with Leunig’s and found it the perfect date day and date night spot. If you are visiting Burlington, Vermont, I would highly recommend this spot for any time of day.
