While summer is in full swing in beautiful New England, and we are fully enjoying it, my mind inevitably starts to wander to the cold winter months and those sunny escapes we dream of. Luquillo, Puerto Rico, is always at the top of my list. It’s a little slice of paradise, filled with great food, cocktails, and views to die for.

Luquillo, Puerto Rico is paradise
Our baby’s first trip to Puerto Rico was a little different. . . not quite as restful as past visits to Luquillo, but we still managed to have a great time, do a ton of swimming, and of course, eat and drink our way through old favorites and new-to-us spots!
Boardriders is always our go-to. It’s casual, beachy, and has delicious food and great service. Get the Baril Colada (Oak Barrel Rum, pineapple, coconut cream, topped with Bacardi 151) to start! It’s a taste of paradise!
You can’t beat the views from Boardriders no matter what time of day you visit, and we tend to visit often! Fresh, healthy options abound at Boardriders; bowls and salads are great choices, but they also offer seared or blackened seafood, wraps, burgers, and more.
When we aren’t at Boardriders, we often head to Los Kioskos, often favorite Ceviche Hut for cold, fresh, flavorful seafood platters and mojitos.
The kiosks in Luquillo offer so many different options, so taking a stroll to explore them all is definitely recommended. A coconut with a splash of rum is a great way to keep cool during your wandering!
On this past trip to Puerto Rico, we dropped a friend off at the airport a day early, and on our way back to our beach condo, we discovered Richie’s Café, known for its seafood and absolutely amazing views from high atop a hill.
Fruity drinks, shrimp, and fried fish were delicious, and we felt so welcome in the space. It was breezy and beautiful, well-shaded, the perfect spot for the middle of the day.
We will definitely be making a return visit to Richie’s!
Speaking of return visits, we made our second visit to La Estación, a former gas station that serves up some of the best food we have had on the island. A BBQ-focused menu with excellent specials was ideal for lunch on a hot day. We shared a bunch of items like their grilled hot dog, pulled pork, and wedge salad. . . all really great options! Follow your nose to find La Estación; the smell of the BBQ is intoxicating.
Eating well in Puerto Rico is easy and can be as simple as fresh tropical fruit and mimosas for breakfast under a palm tree. We love to stock up on local groceries and have breakfasts, snacks, and happy hours at home. Simple life is the best life on vacation!
