Happy Monday! Did you all have a nice weekend? On Friday I decided that I was in need of a laptop-free day and a blogging-free weekend. Since blogging is sort of part of my business, it was a hard decision to make, but with my allergies absolutely raging, my energy and spirits were way low. We spent Saturday doing a deep clean of our bedroom, vacuuming up every last speck of dust, dry cleaning our bedding, and making it a little easier for me to breathe. We followed that with finalizing the purchase of our boat and a Champagne brunch. As the day went on, my allergies got worse and worse, eventually ending with hives, almost zero ability to breathe, and a big old dose of Benadryl. Saturday night fail.
After a long night’s sleep, we decided to give the outdoors another try and went to celebrate Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain.
Lilac Sunday is an annual celebration of this lovely spring flower, one of my favorites, and includes tours, musical performances, and food vendors. We opted out of a tour and decided to wander the Arboretum ourselves to look at the abundance of flowering trees. The park is a beautiful place for a walk or a run, but I learned yesterday that you can only picnic there on Lilac Sunday. Too bad. I guess that’s why it is so clean!
Even though it was a gray and chilly day, the flowers more than brightened it up, and I felt pretty good, considering the pollen in the air.
After our walk, we shared a cupcake from the cupcake truck, The Cupcakory. Our lemon and raspberry cupcake was perfectly sweet, with the icing being creamy and full of real bits of raspberry. To make it even sweeter, 100% of the proceeds from the cupcake went to Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer. I love the idea of a cupcake truck, and I am excited for a summer of food truck fun around Boston!
I thought about blogging when we got home, but I took an hour nap instead. Our de-cluttered room is so quiet and was just the place I wanted to be. I spent a lot of time this weekend sleeping (until 10:30 on Saturday!), but I think whatever is going on with my body made it a necessity. I am not feeling 100% into blogging and am a little stressed about work and things, so today I will try to fake it til I make it!
The one thing I did do over the weekend was add a menu in the left sidebar of the blog. It has a link to my Recipes page as well as a quick Disclaimer I wrote up and a new page on Advertising. I think that after my Foodbuzz contract is up, I am going to give other advertising opportunities a chance and see how it goes.
Did you do anything fun this weekend? How do you pick yourself up when you are just feeling blah and energy-less for days?

I was struggling on Saturday with Bret’s birthday lunch and the Celtic’s game. My eyes wouldn’t stop tearing up and I was a hot mess. I took Tylenol PM last night and slept forever and feel so much better today! We often need to fnd some time to unwind…I’m glad you found time to do that this weekend.

Hey Meghan, I actually suffer from pretty severe allergies too and those over-the-counter anti-histamines don’t really help me. Have you seen an allergist? Prescription meds like Atarax worked wonders for me. Also acupuncture. I can definitely relate to your worries because sometimes my allergies are so bad that I need to get on steroids. Anyway I hope you feel better soon. The arboretum is beautiful and I’m gonna make plans to go there this weekend or next! Oh and I had the same cupcake from Cupcakory!Sooo good.

Such beautiful photos – it looks like a perfect picnic spot indeed away from the bustle of the city – yet close enough that you dont need to refrigerate anything – how did you get there – is there a train / bus combo – is it close to the city center? Was it packed, looks pretty empty. But really pretty pictures.
