In under 500 words, without photos because that is the Boston Food Bloggers assignment.
Savin Bar and Kitchen, new to Dorchester, and yet another reason for you to visit our neighborhood. Right across from the Savin Hill T stop on the Red Line – meet me there!
Last night was Savin Bar and Kitchen’s opening night, and they nailed it. Restaurants usually have a few opening woes, and I guess the kitchen got a little behind, but we never would have noticed if our waitress hadn’t warned us. The place was packed, and it was great to see my neighborhood out supporting a new business.
Pros
Local and affordable, a great addition to Dorchester’s growing dining scene
Family friendly, yet cozy for a date for two, the dining groups were quite diverse.
Service was exceptional, did not miss a beat. Friendly, down to earth, and warm, the reason I love Dorchester in the first place.
Beer selection, widely local to MA and surrounding areas, the Harpoon Oyster Stout on draft was dark, briny, superb.
Wine list is eclectic, offering more than your typical grape varietals.
Burratta with greens, perfectly creamy, soft, and flavorful with a buttery crostini
Roasted beet and mango salad with manchego – earthy, salty sweet, light yet filling
Fried goat cheese with red onion marmalada and Jamaica Plain honey – ooey gooey soft cheese with sweet and tangy red onion marmalade, and local honey
Focus on local and house-made cuisine
Cons
Music – a little too loud
TV’s. . . I hate them in restaurants, most Bostonians require them
Confit Pizza – was missing the promised arugula and was more like a tomato pie than a pizza. Pizza is either good, or it should be tossed off the menu. Toss this.
Overall
I would absolutely recommend Savin Bar and Kitchen for a nice, laid back meal, and we will likely be back next week with neighbors. Good job, Dorchester!
Have you tried any new restaurants lately that you love?

I heavily rely on photos in my blog posts so I am impressed that you were able to write such a compelling and information-filled review without them! I think the spacing you used is really helpful so the reader doesn’t get lost. I feel like I know a lot about this place and would really want to try the burrata!

I guess I was hoping that this place, while not a sports bar, would be somewhere below Harp and Bard [located down the street] on the price/class scale. The menu is complex, and the beers are as expensive or more expensive than hip locations further in the city.
I wasn’t looking for another $6 beer, especially in the middle of Dorchester. I’m already at the T stop – I can just go into the city to pay these kinds of prices.

Hmm, new restaurant? I recently stopped in at Equator in the South End for a glass of wine. The place looked really beautiful and I’m hoping to head back for some food next time!
