Bouchon Bakery

Need I say more? Yesterday morning, we awoke to a beautiful day in Napa. After lolling around for a bit, having coffee on the hotel’s terrace, and checking out, we headed up to Yountville for a little breakfast, Thomas Keller style.

Our second trip to the Bouchon Bakery, we were already familiar with it’s tantalizing array of treats, and unlike the last time, we were there on a weekday morning. It was perfectly quiet and warm and sunny enough outside for a handful of people to be sitting in it’s outdoor area.

While the Bouchon Bakery wasn’t packed, it did have a line, so we looked around while we waited. A sign advertising a prix fixe dinner at Bouchon drew us in. Unfortunately, the dinner special had ended the day before.

We watched as the Bouchon bakers put in trays and trays of baguettes.

And then it was our turn to order. Ordering at Bouchon is pretty overwhelming, but we decided on a vanilla macaron and a chocolate croissant. In hindsight, I am wondering why I chose vanilla with all of the other flavors, but I think it is a good, classic flavor and gives a good indication of a bakery’s talent. The lemon looks really good to me now. . .

The macarons and other baked goods seemed almost too good to eat.

And I wanted to try everything. That is the problem with only being able to visit places once in awhile.

We decided to join our fellow pastry-eaters outside for some sunshine. It was a little breezy but warm enough for me to be wearing a dress and spring jacket without tights. It felt strange after a winter of being bundled up!

The macaron ended up a good choice, light, chewy with an almost marshmallow-like filling.

Obviously I would recommend heading to Bouchon and Bouchon Bakery if you are ever in the Napa Valley area. It’s certainly worth a drive to Yountville to check out the famed Thomas Keller’s hotspots. I only wish we could have stayed forever. . .

What’s your favorite baked good of all time?

LOVE this place. My husband and I stopped here while honeymooning in Napa and had the most decadent croissants. I remember sitting outside in the sun, drinking an iced coffee and being in heaven. I’m so jealous of you right now!!

I’ve never been to Yountville, but this is one of my pilgrimage spots. I really can’t wait to go there to try their baguettes and get the roasted chicken!

I’m not sure if I’m more jealous of the sunshine or the pastries! I can’t resist a good fruit tart!

You had me at the title. 🙂 The macarons look gorgeous, and I’m sure I would have gotten the passion fruit one, and I probably would have gotten a chocolate croissant too. Favorite baked good of all time? I’m just going to pretend I didn’t see that question… as if I could choose!

This is definitely on my list of places to visit.

So jealous!! That is a loaded question (favorite baked good of all time) – it’s like asking a parent to choose between their kids haha :p I guess if I really had to choose, it’ll be a chocolate chip cookie 🙂

Every time I am in France, the first thing I get is Pain Au Chocolat. It’s just hard to beat. I try to eat at least one (or two) every day I’m there. The Bouchon Bakery looks awesome!

Wow, you showed great restraint at Bouchon!

I’m visiting California for the first time in one weeks time, and Yountville, Bouchon Bistro, and Bouchon Bakery are both on my list of places to visit…. Your post and beautiful pictures make me feel even more excited than I already am!

Are there any other places in the area that you would recommend??

I am (gratefully) in the Bay Area and get to hit Napa fairly frequently. When I go to Yountville, I always always hit Bouchon and now the bakery. The donuts there are quite yummy, but as you could tell, any of the pastries are fairly delectable. They are no cheap venture, but at least the macarons are large to make up for its equally large price tag. Next time you are there, be sure to check out Bottega (I’ve covered that in my blog) and Ad Hoc, for stellar and fun meals.

I love anything Thomas Keller. We were in Yountville in January and went to Bouchon for dinner on night and Ad Hoc for dinner the next. Did not make it to the bakery, but I don’t think I could have handled anymore great food. Next time I am going to attempt the French Laundry and the Bakery. It is nice to only live about 2 hours away. Thanks for sharing. Napa / Sonoma area is such so special. Glad that you had a great time.

I’m going to NY next week (if my back feels better) and I need to make a trip to Bouchon. I used to live a block away and thankfully never tried their stuff at the time, otherwise I think it would be trouble. Now I can enjoy it while in NY… and I have it on our Vegas agenda as well 🙂
