You’ll have to wait until tomorrow to read all about last night’s out-of-this-world Venge Wine Dinner at the home of Chef Robin White. The cold that was making its way into my life late last night has its full grip on me now, and I am hoping to feel better to be able to go to work tomorrow.
I had another great weekend in New Jersey visiting my family. My baby niece Isabella starts pre-school tomorrow, and while I can’t believe she has grown so quickly, I am so proud of her and love spending time with her.
Friday night we had a family outing to Shogun Hibachi for a little bit of hibachi-cooked food and entertainment. It’s a fun place to go every once in awhile 🙂
Sitting at the communal hibachi tables provides a noisy but fun environment for dinner.
We all ordered a hibachi meal which consists of whatever protein each person chose, noodles, rice, and veggies.
We started with a salad with ginger dressing. The salad was not the most spectacular mix of veggies, but the dressing is addictive. I love ginger!
A clear soup comes next. It doesn’t have tons of flavor, but was soothing to my sore throat.
Then the fun began. The hibachi chef chopped with some epic speed, and did a few tricks along the way like making a huge burst of flames along the grill.
I had the scallops, and they were perfectly cooked on the hibachi as the chef only put them on for a couple of minutes on either side. They were nicely glazed, tender, and flavorful. The huge pile of food came with spicy mustard and more ginger sauce for dipping.
The portions are huge, and it might be a little too noisy for some people, but the food is always fresh and cooked perfectly to order. It was just what we wanted.
The rest of the weekend in NJ was spent relaxing with my family, and of course, at the Venge Wine Dinner. I can not wait to share the photos and menu with all of you tomorrow morning!

Have you ever been to a hibachi style restaurant or other somewhat gimmicky place?
