Going to keep it short today as I have a few freelance pieces I am working on in addition to cleaning the house for my sister’s arrival, grocery shopping, prepping meals for the week, etc. etc. etc. This weekend has FLOWN, and I haven’t accomplished nearly as much as needed.
Let’s talk about ambition for a second. As bloggers and blog readers, I know you are all ambitious people, looking to do new things, meet new people, and to learn tons in an effort to improve yourselves and the world around you.
Recently, my ambition and as a result, my overall character have come under attack. It has been suggested, in a passive aggressive sort of way that we are TOO ambitious, that the things we do don’t matter, well, you get the picture.
My first reaction, being the sensitive person I am, was hurt which swiftly moved to anger, and then after a massage and some time to reflect, it turned to pride. I have a lot going on. That’s what life is for.
Whether other people like it or not, I am proud. . .
-of the fact that I may work long hours but that a company full of people depend on what I do.
-of having spent over a year writing a blog that some people actually come back to daily (thank you!).
-of caring about my health enough to make the time to work out at least 4 days a week.
-of spending the time to create healthy, delicious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (most of the time).
-of the hours I have spent each weekend over the last 3 years volunteering.
-of the time and money I devote to causes that are important to me.
-of the friends I have made and kept and the new ones I meet all the time.
-of being able to plan some pretty fabulous vacations and other events while doing all of the above.
All of these things take time and effort. My schedule is packed. It might mean that I don’t have as much time to sit around watching TV or that I am not always available to be spontaneous or do things on a whim. It means I am living my life to the fullest and making sure that I accomplish what I want.
So now you tell me, what are you proud of today? I know there is something!
Has anyone ever criticized you for having a lot going on?

I know that there are “friends” of mine who think I am too busy and who think that my blog is self indulgent. I know this because since I have been blogging I have grown apart from some very close friends which makes me very sad.
I would imagine that doing something that makes you happy (of which you have a lot in your life) should be something people should celebrate, not criticize you for. You go Meghan! Do what you love. I know everything in my life right now from my job to my blog are things I love to do and of which I am proud. I can see it’s the same way for you. Hugs xox

You definitely have a lot to be proud of, and you should be proud! I also get criticized for having too much going on, but I just remind myself that we are all different: to each her own. What I am proud of today is going to the gym first thing in the morning to try a new muscle conditioning class. It’s a small accomplishment because I usually sleep in on Sunday mornings 🙂

I am so sorry your ambition and character have come under attack. It made me sad to read at first, and frustrated on your behalf. You have a lot to be proud of and I can definitely relate to a few of those on your list.
I just broke a sweat mopping my hardwood floors. I haven’t actually mopped them in ages and now they are sparkling. Yea, I’m pretty proud of that.

To put it simply people are often judgmental of what they don’t or can’t have. Elementary school is basically a pattern for all of life.
When I read your blog, I see someone who prioritizes all the things that are important to her. You seem to have a full happy life, a job you enjoy, and a husband with whom you enjoy spending time. Good job not letting other people get you down.

Blog drama? You should consider it a compliment! All of the successful bloggers have dealt with this at some point or another and it has definitely made them more resilient.
You have much to be proud of! Keep up the great things you know and love.

Keep it up! Ambition shouldn’t be seen as self-indulgence or mis-prioritizing your life goals. Sorry to hear you’ve been questioned like that! Just always remember that it DOES matter, even if the payout is not seen immediately.
What am I proud of? Hmm… even though I still consider myself an “emerging/beginner photographer”, I am proud of how well I’ve kept up my photo blog and Flickr photostream.
I’ve also joined a wedding photographer’s assistant program and can’t wait to accompany on weddings next summer! (Already been on a few lifestyle shoots). I know it’s not glamorous, but you’ve gotta start somewhere…
