Melting Pot Tweetup

Last night I attended yet another great blogger event, this time a tweetup hosted by The Melting Pot Park Plaza location in downtown Boston.

The Melting Pot

When I arrived at the event, I was greeted by samples of Still River Winery apple ice wine, a crisp, sweet, and very slightly tart wine made from apples.

Here’s a bit of info from the Still River website:

The Quebecois call it ice cider. Sweet, golden, and full-bodied in the glass, Apfel Eis is made from a blend of local varietal apples – over 80 apples in each bottle. Inspired by techniques used to make ice wine, Apfel Eis is pressed without preservatives, and slowly fermented at very cold temperatures. This preserves the delicate aromas and flavors that would disappear if fermented more quickly at warmer temperatures. Unlike most wines and ciders made from apples, Apfel Eis has absolutely no sugar added – before or after fermentation.

The result is a unique taste sensation – sweet, with a gentle bite, complex flavor and clean finish. Apfel Eis preserves the aromatic fragrance of freshly picked apples. A sip or two, and you may find yourself in an apple orchard on a crisp fall day…

While I don’t always love fruit wine, I really liked the apple-y flavor of this wine and the bit of sharpness that it offered on the finish. I think it would be a perfect fall sipper!

We also were offered red or white sangria. I opted for the white, and it was refreshing and not too sweet, just the way I like it! 🙂

I wandered around the room a bit to check out the varieties of fondue that were bubbling up for us. There were two tables of cheesy fondue and two tables of dessert fondue. I was one of the first to dig in, and I definitely liked the Fiesta and Three Cheese blends the best, especially because the Fiesta had a little kick to it. I bypassed the veggies and apples and went straight for the bread!

Don’t worry, I saved some time for chocolate fondue and decadent dippers as well. There were plenty of rice krispy treats, strawberries, and brownies for dipping in the variety of chocolates. I made good friends with the dark chocolate and the cookies & cream. Surprisingly, I don’t always love rice krispy treats, but dipped in hot dark chocolate, they are pretty incredible!

I also had a couple of brownies and a big, juicy strawberry. Strawberries and chocolate are the perfect marriage!

Of course, one of the most fun parts of a blogger event are the bloggers themselves! It was great to see and meet blogger friends like Michelle, Tina, Fiona, Amanda, Alicia, and Katie. Boston has seriously got it going on when it comes to food bloggers. We need to have our own food blogger conference!

After fondue fun, I walked to South Station enjoying the glorious late evening sun of the longest day of the year. The husband was just out of work, so we decided to head to South Boston for a little walk on the beach.

There is something so renewing about the start of a new season, especially one that allows us to spend more time outdoors. And I was glad I got to kick it off with a little bit of everything I love most, my husband, the outdoors, food, wine, and friends.

Thank you to The Melting Pot for such a yummy event! I look forward to coming back to sit at one of your romantic lover’s lane tables!
