Get Well Stay Well Giveaway

I don’t know about you all, but I am ready for the weekend! I worked from home today with the hopes of concentrating on one big project that is due in early October. What actually happened was that I ended up being handed a zillion other priorities for today and didn’t spend a second on the project I planned to work on. My brain is fried, and I am not done for the day!

Fall has just begun, but so many people around me have been sick with colds already. While memories of summer keep me cozy and hopeful during our long winters, they definitely are not enough to keep me healthy.

Luckily, I usually can get whatever I need to stay healthy or get healthy at Trader Joe’s. They have so many great types of tea, vitamins, and snacks to soothe the body and the mind. So to help one of you stay well or get well this fall/winter, I am doing a Trader Joe’s giveaway. I am not quite 100% sure what it will contain yet, but I have some ideas!

To enter the contest, just leave me a comment about what makes you feel better when the winter aches and sniffles come on. It could be anything, food, a movie, your favorite blanket. Then, link to the giveaway on your blog (if you have one!) or on Twitter. I will leave the giveaway open until next Friday, October (!) 2nd.

I am actually thinking of joining Twitter. . . I have held off for quite awhile!

Get some good sleep tonight, and stay well everyone. . . its almost FRIDAY!!

I’ve held off on twitter too…I just can’t afford (time) to join another social network, lol! Honestly, food and the holidays get me through the winter, oh and cute winter clothing 😉 Pumpkin, apples, persimmons, cinnamon, thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, boots, coats, scarves, all of that good stuff!

join twitter! i’m actually terrible about using my account – i remember to link to my posts maybe 3 days a week. but i think it can be a good tool. when i’m sick in the winter, i have a routine: chicken soup, chai tea with extra ginger, my couch, a warm blanket and socks, my dvd player, and gone with the wind. 🙂

This was a timely post for me to read since I’m sick right now! I loved reading everyone’s ideas. I always struggle with what to eat when I’m sick… I usually don’t have much of an appettite, but then I feel like I don’t want to undernourish myself but not eating enough…. so I end up just to get the calories in! I’m definitely not one of those girls who things, I’m sick, great, now I’ll lose 5 pounds… nope, not for me! I did make a version of your broth soup tonight!! 🙂

A hot bowl of vegetarian chili and movie night on my couch always helps me get over the winter blues. I am not looking forward to those days — winter comes on so quickly here in Boston!

When I feel a cold coming on, I immediately begin drinking tea (I drink tea anyhow, but up my intake). I usually choose a decaf green tea, but I’ve been drinking an orange breakfast tea lately. As I’m drinking, I keep my face close to the mug to make the most of the heat and steam. The warmth from the mug usually helps with the chills, too!

I love to make chicken “stoup” to feel better. I always end up putting in too much good stuff and never have enough broth. But it’s soooo good! Here’s what I usually use: TJ’s mirepoix, TJ’s frozen medley (corn, peas, carrots, green beans), 2 containers chicken stock, some water, real carrots cut up (I like carrots), poultry seasoning, TJ’s savory chicken broth concentrate, a package of chicken tenders/breasts, salt, pepper and whatever other seasoning I have. I put it all together and just let it simmer for a while and then I add in some barley and let it cook some more. When I’m ready to enjoy I take out the chicken, shred it and put it back in the pot. It’s like a really great hug that warms you from the inside out. :o)
