Happy Sunday everyone! I started this post on the fast ferry from Provincetown to Boston after my annual weekend away with my college roommates. So much fun! Saturday was absolutely perfect beach weather, and we hit the sand as soon as we arrived on the Cape, just after getting lunch at the delicious Box Lunch and knocking back a few Wellfleet oysters at the Lobster Pot. For my lunch, I got an organic veggie rollup with lettuce, tomato, avocado, hot peppers, onions, and blue cheese crumbles. It was so yum, and eating on the beach always makes food taste better!
After the beach we did all of our grocery shopping. While I have to head back to the grind tomorrow, a few of my friends are staying the week. Lucky! We stocked up for the week, headed to buy our lobsters for our lobster dinner, and then arrived at the lovely little cottage that we stay at every year, right on the bay in North Truro, a 5 minute drive from Provincetown. To start the evening off and to rehydrate after a long day on the beach, I made a few Pom Wonderful mocktails with Pom, seltzer, lots of ice, and lime. I had a few of these and then had some water mixed with this Bolthouse Farms carrot juice.
It was very carrot-y. I had to really dilute it and was then able to drink it. I am sure my body thanks me, but it wasn’t easy to get down! After relaxing around the cottage and taking a walk on the beach, we cracked open a bottle of Sakonnet Vineyards’ champagne that I picked up last week at the Coastal Wine Trail kickoff. It was the perfect way to kick off the evening, bubbly, slightly sweet, and delicious. We also had some lovely cambazola cheese and a garlic herb cheese spread on crackers.
Dinner was steamed lobsters and corn on the cob, perfect summer food. With dinner we had some of the Sakonnet Vidal Blanc, Sakonnet’s signature wine and a refreshing, light, peachy drink that went very well with the food and just felt like summer in my mouth. When we were in college we started the tradition of making great, multi course dinners together rather than buying Christmas or birthday gifts, and as a result we have all become major foodies and really interested in wine. Some of my favorite memories are of cooking and eating with the girls! It was SO nice to be around the table again.
The night progressed into Provincetown where there might have been some karaoke and dancing, a few more drinks, and a very late night 🙂
I had a great weekend, but unfortunately I do not feel rested or ready to face another busy week. I am off to watch Milk with the hubby and to get myself ready for some long work hours. Some thoughts on ideas for upcoming posts:
